Happy New Year and Peace

Let us keep the Peace Tower a peace tower and not allow Harper and others to turn it into a War Tower. We lost another four soldiers and a reporter embedded with soldiers yesterday in Afghanistan. Harper's response "let us prorogue Parliament until March 2010" just in case some questions may be asked about this carnage in Afghanistan. Moreover, there was an inquiry going regarding torture. What is the best way to close that inquiry but to prorogue Parliament? Shame, shame and more shame. You have heard the saying, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!" Harper has given new meaning to it. "If you can't stand the heat, lock up the kitchen and walk away."

Harper is hoping that people will be talking about the Olympics come March and forget about the carnage in Afghanistan. Moreover, they will forget about torture business and he can start anew as he did in January 2009. I hope this time he does not succeed and he is taken to task.

Too bad for Canada currently.

New Canadian Airport Security

New security measures are required, that of a whole body scan at Canadian, US and other international airports. No underwear, especially no underwear. You must not go to the washroom one hour during boarding and take-off and no washrooms or leaving seats one hour before landing.

How far they will go? Why not stop the stupid and disastrous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Negotiate and bring peace. Killing hundreds of thousands in Iraq and Afghanistan simply "exposes" us more and more. Why not do the right thing and bring peace. But in case of peace what will politicians do and what will other special interests groups do. Imagine the job creation just for security personnel? What a hypocritical world we live in. Anyway, no more air-travel for me. I'd better keep my shirt on.

U.S. Moral Authority in the World

Although the US has a black President, the discrimination and subjugation of blacks and other minorities is not over.

You have to travel into the Southern US and you will see more blatant examples of such human rights violations. How can America tell other nations about human rights and democracy given its own past record of slavery and its ongoing human rights violations. Yes Hitler was evil and no one can, or should, condone his atrocities. However, dropping a bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was not any less cruel. Unfortunately it is winners take all and winners are not made accountable. Now look at the atrocities committed in Iraq. Millions of men, women and children perished, millions others are refugees in neighbouring countries and still millions others live in squalor with no proper sanitary conditions or food. Is that the example of human rights and democracy? Similar atrocities are being carried out in Afghanistan and now are being extended to Pakistan. Is that spreading democracy?

Every effort is being made to disarm the Middle East and Iran. But what about arming Israel to the teeth with over 200 nuclear heads and drones. Drones which are regularly used to kill Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. Israel carries out the slaughter of its neighbours at will and takes Palestinian land on a daily basis, destroying their homes and building new settlements. Is that an example of democracy and human rights? To bring peace in the Middle East Israel must be disarmed too.

When US has that kind of brutal history then how can it tell other nations that they are unjust societies. Let justice begin at home. When it comes to the violations of human rights, nationally and internationally, US makes top of the list. As long as that continues we will see no peace. It is a very sad state of affairs. Injustice breeds more injustice.

World security problem completely solved

Stop screwing around:

Remember Newton's law of physics:
"To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction."

Which means stop screwing around with the world and world will stop screwing around with you. Stop exploiting Africa for its resources and the same goes for Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. It's that simple.

Iraq did no harm to the US or the west and neither did Afghanistan. There are only a few who want to kill and want to be killed. Go strictly after them. In order to exploit resources don't use the excuse of WMDs (Weapons of Mass Destruction) to invade Iraq. Don't use the excuse of getting rid of extremists to invade Afghanistan when the then government was willing to try the alleged schemers for 9/11. Same Taliban that Harper and others want to negotiate with now. Stop telling people lies. And morons/do-gooders like Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Harper should read their Bible and the golden rule:

"Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."

Uncertainties of life

People who are too certain of their knowledge are quite often misguided people. Other than death and taxes few things are certain in life. Besides that, life is an enigma and full of uncertainties which reminds me of a Chinese fable which I read quite a while ago. It is a simple story but sheds extraordinary light on the uncertainties of human life. I read it under the heading of "An Old Man on a Hill". I did some search on the web and found it under the heading of "The Chinese Farmer". Anyway here is the story:
The Chinese farmer

There is a Chinese story of an old farmer who had an old horse for tilling his fields. One day the horse escaped into the hills and, when all the farmer's neighbours sympathised with the old man over his bad luck, the farmer replied, 'Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?'

A week later the horse returned with a herd of wild horses from the hills and this time the neighbours congratulated the farmer on his good luck. His reply was, 'Good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?'

Then, when the farmer's son was attempted to tame one of the wild horses, he fell off its back and broke his leg. Everyone thought this very bad luck. Not the farmer, whose only reaction was, 'Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?'

Some weeks later the army marched into the village and conscripted every able-bodied youth they found there. When they saw the farmer's son with his broken leg they let him off. Now was that good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?
After reading this story one gets the feeling that the only ones who can be sure of their knowledge are clowns with chia-heads.

US Senate passes Healthcare Bill

Is it a hysterical or historical moment? The private healthcare lobby did prevail. First there was going to be a public option. Democrats compromised their position and the public option was dropped. Then Medicare was going to be extended to 55 years old to 64 years old from the current 65 years and older. Oh no! Sorry! Senatorial prostitute Joe Lieberman said over his dead body and a new position was taken and that option was dropped too. Long live the private healthcare lobby.

You know what the motto of the private healthcare is: you can buy insurance but don't get sick or make any claims, or if you do get sick die real quick otherwise your insurance will be dropped. Private health insurance companies are the true Satans that the holy books talked about. The following commercial sheds some light on the modem operandi of the private health insurance companies although the commercial points to the banks.

The expression on the little girl's face is priceless and that is how private health insurance companies operate. Wake up America.

Budi Soehardi: An Inspiring Story

I dedicate this post to my friends and fellow bloggers who are a bit down on themselves. Life has its hardships but also its rewards. Mr. Budi Soehardi is an Indonesian airline pilot who has found a wonderful and inspiring way to help fellow human beings and in the process reap the reward of contentment and happiness for doing so.

So please cheer up and think of those who are in far worse situations than we are and admire those who rise to the occasion and help others. I believe that human societies have survived as long as they have because of such giving and extraordinary human beings. In my view, these are the holy men in our global village. Reformers and prophets had first and foremost similar messages which are quite often lost in the maze of other forces of greed, hunger for power, privileges and wealth – multi-facets of human nature at play.

The Art of Loafering

During my school days I read a book "Art of Living" translated from Chinese, it was by the author Lin Yutang (1895 – 1976) a Chinese writer/philosopher. One of the chapters in that book was on the "art of loafering". Loafering is a rough translation from Chinese meaning just wander around aimlessly. Lin Yutang says that we are too accustomed to "objective this and objective that" or "goal this and goal that" in life. He suggests just leave your familiar environment and go in an environment where no one knows you and wander around aimlessly without any "objective" or "goal".

Since I read that book many years ago I have been practicing the art of loafering. This year, of course, it was a few days before Christmas. I went into a community where no one knows me. I wandered around all over the place – on the streets and malls and stores. One thing which struck me was the holiday spirit and generosity of people. Whether I stopped somewhere for a coffee, breakfast, lunch or supper, people made extra effort to be nice which is not the case year around. Even the hotel people made extra effort to make sure that I felt comfortable and that all my needs were well looked after.

I went to a grocery store and saw this lady wearing a Santa hat. So I asked her that if she was Santa, then my wish was that I get the Christmas cake free. She laughed and it was fun even though I did not get the cake and I did not want it anyway.

What I learned from this experience is that religion plays a very important role in people's lives and quite often tames that beast in humans and makes them more moral. It is billions and billions of people around the world. If you take religion away from their lives there will be a complete chaos. Life is much more pleasant with religious beliefs (minus the fanatics of course).

If we can rid the world of fanatics like Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Ladens, then religion will not be such a bad influence. Quite frankly I consider Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld worse than Laden even. Bin Laden is alleged to have masterminded 9/11 and killed 3000 innocent people. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld and associates are responsible for the killing of millions of innocent men, women and children in Iraq and Afghanistan, not to mention American troops sent in harms way in the first place. Also, over 40,000 US causalities and over 5000 young men were killed in these wars and thousands more psychologically injured for the rest of their lives. We should use a uniform standard for all these beasts and keep them in a cage. Once we do that the world can be a better place and religion in its true spirit does provide good guidance to live a productive and useful life.

In the picture, it is an actual quote from Lin Yutang.

Intelligent life on other planets

Since in Copenhagen we got nowhere, maybe there is still hope to leave the earth for a better and bigger planet ;) Don't despair yet.

It may not be too distant in the future that we discover life on other planets. Star Trek may become reality and not science fiction. Hurry up astrobiologists as it is becoming too boring on the earth and as scientists say, it is heating up and we may not be able to live here anymore.

"If aliens on Super Earths ever decided to investigate Earth to see if such a tiny world could harbor life, they would have a harder time sending rockets into space because of the higher gravity on their planet." This could be another answer to the Fermi Paradox," says Sasselov, "but it's not an insurmountable problem." It could even be that because of their deeper gravity well, aliens living on Super Earths would have to develop a technology superior to our chemical rockets in order to explore the universe."

Two landmarks of 2009? U.S. Healthcare Reform and Copenhagen Accord

You got it that these two landmarks are the US Healthcare Bill and the Copenhagen Accord on Climate Change. Both are puffed up, hollow and lack substance. The American Senate succeeded to make a mockery of healthcare reform and the world succeeded to make a mockery of the global warming issue. The Healthcare Bill is a great victory for the private health insurance companies of the US and the Copenhagen Accord is a great victory for the fossil fuel multinational corporations of the world including our own in Canada.

The US Senate Healthcare Bill first dropped the public option and instead offered Medicare to 55 to 64 years old which was dropped also. So what it amounts to is to provide a more solid source of income and profits for private health insurance companies suggesting that they will compete. For sure look at their record.

The Copenhagen Accord after a lot of haggling is a document which is binding on no one. Another conference will be held to discuss that further. Don't hold your breath for that.

He says kill the bill. Do you blame the good doctor? Joe Lieberman and fellow porkies have managed to whittle down the bill to futility. First there was supposed to be a public option but the porkies (of private health insurance companies) like Joe Lieberman said over their dead bodies. So public option gone. Then there was a proposal to extend Medicare to 55 years, again Lieberman and other porkies said NO and now by all accounts that is gone.

Now Dr. Howard Dean is saying forget about passing such a bill - that it's too watered down to amount to any meaningful reform.

It is a big victory for private healthcare (profiteers) insurance companies. Long live the greed and exploitation. The American people deserve better. Given the control of these profit-driven insurance companies one should worry if their next target will be Canada. Sarah Palin is already indicating that Canada should reform its healthcare and give it back to private profiteers. Good-bye healthcare hello gluttony as thy name is tyranny.

My job is to grow body parts...

...says the good doctor. It was an amazing documentary over the weekend on CBS 60 minutes. Doctors in this documentary explain how each human cell (or a cell of other living creatures) knows what its job is. An ear cell knows how to grow an ear; a bladder cell knows how to grow a bladder only, and a heart cell knows how to grow a heart. This is extraordinary programming which goes into these cells. How did that programming get in there? I don't know, I only ask questions.

For example, a computer program like Windows we know is produced by Bill Gates or his techs. Thousands of hours go into such programming yet these programs are what they are and don't have the capability to multiply and grow into something bigger like cells do. All the computers programs in the world put together are less complex than a single living cell.

All science knows is that those cell programs are there and how to use them to grow body parts but yet have said nothing about how that programming got in there. At least to my knowledge.

I also watched a documentary on National Geographic where they talk about the known universe and talked about the complexity of even a single atom, and of how science still does not know all its complexity. There is a universe within an atom which this documentary explains encompasses the nature of the whole universe or a miniature of universe. As you know that an atom is so small that it is not visible to the naked human eye.

Damn I used to know everything until I entered university and that know-it-all myth started shattering only never to recover from it. Now all I know is that I really don't know.

Tiger leaps back into Woods

Poor man Tiger Woods. Got caught with his pants down. It looks most of his so-called mistresses were high-end escorts. Now the most recent is that he is taking time off golf and headed for a very small island of off the coast of Sweden. His wife, who is from Sweden, bought a small house in the woods on the island, which is only accessible by boat, hoping that will save her from the paparazzi. And if Tiger does move with her, then save him too from the paparazzi.

One does not feel sorry for Tiger as he had his share of jollies. My golly when you have a $1 billion income what you do with it? One does not feel sorry for his wife either. She is an expert putter herself and a hole in one. Rumours are that the pr-nuptial agreement was for $20 million which Tiger has already raised to $60-70 million to keep her company for the time being.

However, the real victims are going to be the children. It is sad. This experience is going to be traumatic for them. It is hoped that they will recover from it.

The moral of the story is that if your intentions are to remain an active 'player' then don't get married. Especially don't claim to love someone when you're going to share it - your "love" - around extensively. Just have fun and move on.

Gravity and life

Sir Isaac Newton who walked this earth some 350-400 years ago. He was sitting under an apple tree and an apple fell on his head; he started wondering why the apple fell to the ground instead of just taking off in the space. He came up with the theory of gravity. Now we know for sure how it works as astronauts in space floating around when they cross the gravity sphere of the earth. We take so many realities of life for granted.

What if there was no gravity. We will be all floating around and so will other objects and living beings, if there would be any. Gravity made it possible that flora and fauna and humans stay put and that living beings in general can move around without being lost in space. If there was no gravity would planets stay in place or would they collide with each other hence causing another big bang with no end? What an extraordinary balance and organization of the universe?

How this gravity got in there? I don't know and I don't pretend to know. Why there is gravitation between male and female species and offsprings especially those of humans? If there was no natural love for children probably humans will eat their own children. However, any 'normal' human does not harm his/her children and does everything to meet their needs. How did that come about? If there was not that strong motivation and desire for copulation then human life would have ended long ago as no one would have wanted to procreate. What an extraordinary phenomena, yet we take it for granted.

Why is there such an attraction for all things attractive? What is that sentiment?

What if there was too much gravity then will all flora and fauna be strictly stuck to the ground and not move? Or blood will be drawn down in living creatures and kill them instantly? Everything is in the right amount otherwise there will be no life. Have you ever gone through the experience of being very down. Step outside the house and saw a beautiful flower and you felt suddenly cheered up. That sun and its light and flower came together to cheer a person up and then of course the ability of the eyes to see and send that image to the brain and the brain in turn sending messages to the nervous system. All that happens in a split second. How extraordinary. It happened with me once coming out of my office and in this case it was a wild flower. That is exactly what I thought when I saw that flower. Life is very unusual and very complex indeed.

Who knows how many more earth-like planets are there in the universe? It will be interesting if we find human-like creatures on other planets. Won't happen in my lifetime though it looks.

Will she call it a hospital that has "death panels" and kills grannies? Who cares as long as she is paid $200,000. It will cost you $200 to listen to her and many in her audience may not make $200,000 in a year, or in some cases in a lifetime, but that is beside the point.

Walter Natynczyk said the same thing initially but then changed his story on Wednesday. Now he says there were a few cases. What happens to the credibility of Rick Hillier now, and to that of his political bosses Stephen Harper and Peter Mackay. The opposition is asking for Peter Mackay's resignation. It looks he knowingly might have misled Parliament and hence the Canadian people.

It is not a pretty picture. You may read Gen. Walter Natynczyk's story here. However, since this story broke he further inidcated that there were more similar cases. What a disgrace that Canada is being given this kind of reputation and how hard Harper and Mackay are trying to cover it up. The plot thickens. It is extremely important that there is a public inquiry.

US Healthcare and Grandma

The example of the proverbial grandma was used profusely during the healthcare bill debate in the US Congress. It would look now that both parties, and to a certain extent Barack Obama, have abandoned the grandma on the steps of Capitol Hill in the cold. The latest healthcare bill in the Senate compromise does not look good. It looks that the public option will be dropped. Too bad for our American friends because healthcare based on profits is for profits and not for anyone's health as such.

However, by 2011 Medicare will be extended to 55 years and older, lowered from the 65 age limit, to a select few including those who currently don't have healthcare coverage. The private healthcare insurance lobby is indeed strong at Capitol Hill and they scored a big victory. Maybe it is still a step towards better healthcare in the US; only time will tell.

Global Warming or Pollution

Maybe global warming is a confusing term for the general public. Why not call it pollution? We see and experience pollution everyday in our lives. Polluted air, water and food. If nothing else polluted air, water and food will kill the human species. Everyday there are stories of polluted water and pollution getting into the food chain. Is that not bad enough? Do we not need to do something about it?

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has declared that CO2 is indeed dangerous for human health. Does that not sound alarm bells?

Whatever this e-mails or climatgate scandal may be with regards to global warming, there is no doubt about the calamity of global pollution and if something is not done and done soon, life may become horrible for many living species including humans. Scientists are great folks but they often suck when it comes to PR. There is a need for more good PR people like Al Gore.

All kinds of pollution including greenhouse gases are dangerous for public health, period, and full stop. What more evidence we need? If we want our children and grandchildren to survive action is needed now. Let us not allow the greed of fossil fuel international corporations to destroy our planet.

Tiger's Tail/Tale Becomes Long and Entangling

The latest is that a blonde woman was taken at 2 AM from Tiger's house in an ambulance. What is this about 2 AM with Tiger Woods? Moreover, there was a story on MSNBC that his wife has moved out.

One does not feel sorry for Tiger Woods and his mistresses. He knew what he was doing and the mistresses knew that they were having jollies with a married man with children. The victim in this case is Tiger's wife because he broke the trust. Whatever you may think of marriage, when you take a vow of faithfulness a person's words must count. However, his wife may find ways to get even with him. Already there is a story that he is willing to part with $60 million, three times the pre-nuptial agreement, if his wife will stay with him.

The real victims though are the children. They get caught in between. The struggle of "he is bad and she is bad" starts and children pay the price as, like all children, they would like to love both parents. It is becoming a big tragedy and the media does not seem to get enough of it.

Human Follies: $3,000,000.00 bra

Yes! A bra for three million dollars. Victoria Secret is promoting it on the net and the story was on CNN. Yes you can see it on the model. However, if a woman buys it and wears it, who is going to see it besides herself and her boyfriend/husband? Children are dying of hunger in New York City, Washington D.C., Los Angeles and many other cities of North America and some woman is going to wear $3,000,000.00 worth of bra. Some unusual boobs. People are dying or being killed on the streets of Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Gaza and here in the West someone is consumed with this stupid luxury item. Will we humans get anymore stupid?

Karzai speaks up

Karzai was interviewed over the weekend by Amanpour of CNN. She asked him about the troop surge. His response was very blunt and more less meant "put up or shut up". He said the US and west trained so-called insurgents/extremists and now they are posing a threat to the US and the West. So now put up with it or help Afghanistan to overcome the problem. He was a very frustrated Karzai.

The reality is that Bush was offered by the Taliban government to put Osama Bin Laden on trial but instead Bush decided to invade Afghanistan in the name of democracy. Now over 8 years later and many war atrocities, casualties and destruction, where are we? We don't learn from our blunders. Once the colonialism stops maybe we will have alot fewer problems in the world. Right now might is right rules, or destroys, whichever way you wish to look at it.

Jim Prentice: Barack Obama has a new poodle

Move over Bo, here comes Joe. You thought Tony Blair was a poodle to Bush, now Jim Prentice and Stevie Harper have decided to play poodle to Obama on the environment at the Copenhagen Conference on Global Warming.

"He (Prentice) cited two reasons why Canada would need to twin its policies with the U.S.: This country would "suffer economic pain for no real environmental gain" if it took a more aggressive approach, he said. On the other hand, it would face punitive measures if it did less.

"Given the integration of our two economies it is essential our targets remain in line — not more, not less," Prentice said. "It all comes down to jobs."

But critics say such an approach could be a licence to do nothing.

While Obama has set greenhouse-gas targets, there's no guarantee he will succeed in getting Congress to approve his climate-change plans.

One international critic has even called Canada the biggest obstacle to any deal being reached in Copenhagen."

Wars are good for Generals and the Rich only

Michael Moore said it aptly in his letter to Obama opposing the escalation of war in Afghanistan:

"Not send more poor people to kill other poor people who pose no threat to them, that's what they'd do. Not spend billions and trillions to wage war while American children are sleeping on the streets and standing in bread lines."

You can read the rest of his letter here.

I need not repeat that so many lies have been told to justify wars: WMD's in Iraq and women's rights in Afghanistan or maybe we should call them WMD's and WRA's bold faced lies.

The worst part is, as Michael Moore said, it is poor killing the poor. Very rarely do sons and daughters of the rich and powerful actually participate in war on the ground. It is always poor (and the middle class to some degree) who pay the price.

What the general public must watch out for is the brainwashing which goes on to convince young men and women to go in the harms way. Such as you will become an instant "hero" if you kill so many "enemies". Or if you die you instantly become a martyr – what good does it do for the person who is dead and what good is it for his/her loved ones? It is exploitation of the people. Not much different than what Karl Marx said about religion and how it is used as an opium for the masses. He was quite right there. It is exploitation and brainwashing.

I said this before and I will say it again, that the only people who benefit from such wars are the rich and powerful – oil and gas companies in Iraq and Afghanistan or the generals who can keep their jobs a little longer. What poor and middle class get out of it is more misery, death and destruction. Then of course higher taxes to pay for these vicious wars started by the rich and powerful for the benefit of the rich and powerful. It is time that the general public rises up against these horrible wars and demand an end to them.

Stephen Harper in China

With torturegate on his hands, how can Harper talk about human rights in China? Remember he would not attend the Chinese Olympics because he said that "Canadians are deeply concerned about China's human rights record" and he was trying to sell that to Canadians to win votes. Now where is his own human rights records?

Also, the China media is calling him for what he really is, a hypocrite. How stupid can he get that he would not attend the Olympics and now he wants to kiss Chinese butts for business with China. This man is a disgrace, I am sorry to say.

By the way Confucius (551-479 BCE) is one of my favourite philosophers/mystics. What he said more than 2000 years ago is so true today. He truly understood human nature. Here is one of my favourite quotes from him"

"Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance."

Socrates (469 BC–399 BC) said something similar a little later on: "I know that I don't know."

Socrates also questioned the Greek establishment and he was sentenced to death on the grounds that he was corrupting the youth by such questions. That tells you how much one should trust an establishment of any kind.

I hope Harper will learn something in China.

Barack Obama’s Strategy for Afghanistan – Part 2

Here it is folks in nutshell, in case you did not watch the news or missed his speech.

1.He will send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan and complete the deployment process by June.

2.From June 2010 to June 2011 he will complete the following:

A) Defeat Taliban, defeat Al-Queda and all the other bad guys in Afganistan.

B) Reform the Afghanistan government. Get rid of corruption and put a democratic government in place; and train the Afghan army.

C) Get rid of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda and other bad guys in Pakistan and stabilize the government in Pakistan who will be friendly to the U.S.

June 2011: Mission Accomplished and withdrawal begins in time for the next presidential election. Damn Bush and Cheney could not do that in 8 years. My with that kind of Superman abilities why not elect him for life instead of another term?

I will like Obama to succeed. But you be the judge of his Afghan strategy.
