Obama sure does not believe in torture

He is quite right about torture. If you can kill them why bother torturing? The problem with democracy is that a person can be a good campaigner, but governing is another matter.

I don’t think foreign policy will help Obama get re-elected. His biggest problem is the economy and Republicans have done a good job to tie his hands. Looks like Obama may be a one term president.

Ibn- Arabi and Whirling Dervishes of Turkey

I have written many times before that life is very complex and human intelligence has serious limitations to understand it. We still fully have not understood the complexity of an atom. Yes we made atom bombs and killed fellow humans but many elements of the atom remain a mystery. So how can we claim to understand the universe?

Ibn- Arabi was a fascinating thinker from the 11th century and part of the strain of mysticism called “Sufism”. He wrote:

"How many there are who walk upon the earth, and the earth curses them! How many there are who prostrate themselves upon her, and she rejects them! How many there are who invoke God, yet their words go no further than their lips, their thoughts no further than their mind. These people act for the sake of others, yet calculate what they themselves will get out of it. How many beloved friends of God are to be found in synagogues and churches! How many hated enemies of God are to be found doing their prayers and in mosques!"

Life in Mogadishu: The world's most dangerous city

It is an interesting and many times dangerous world we live in. The West has destroyed Somalia by dumping radioactive waste near the beaches and hence has more less ended fishing there. It is one of the most failed states in the world. Now some survive on piracy which started out of necessity and now has become a way of life for many.

The Killing of Muammar Gaddafi

Gadhafi was indeed a brutal dictator but are his killers any less brutal? Where is this world revolution is headed to, whether it is the Arab Spring or the Occupy Wall Street and Occupy World demonstrations? If the result is going to be worldwide brutality, then attaining the democracy mantra is a big farce.

US/NATO is winning in Afghanistan??

Great victory eh! Once U.S and NATO forces leave, not only will Afghanistan fall back in the hands of the Taliban but also Pakistan and maybe Iran. Pakistan is becoming more fanatic religiously. Since 1978 Pashtuns from Afghanistan have taking refuge in Pakistan. More came during the US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. Now their influence on Pakistani society is very obvious. A 13 year old Christian girl was not only expelled from her school but her whole family was run out of town because she misspelled an Arabic word which came across as derogatory to the Prophet Muhammad. It is fairly obvious that she did not do it on purpose and apologized for her error but that was not good enough for religious leaders and other fanatics.

Pakistan and Iran have traditionally good relations and with Taliban-like governments in Pakistan, they may oblige Iran with a nuke or two. It looks scary and does not bode well for the west.

Dubya wanted to conquer Iraq at the same time as Afghanistan and took his eyes off of the latter, now his blunder is showing results. Dubya’s daddy was threatened by Saddam after Bush Sr. invaded Kuwait so being a good kid he wanted to kill Saddam to protect his daddy and then of course to access the oil in Iraq. What a mess.

Herman Cain: The 9-9-9 Kook

Herman Cain is a joke and no presidential material. Is it possible that Repugs purposely run these kooks to show Americans that blacks are not smart? Last time around it was Allen Keyes. Cain has the intellect of a door knob. I don’t always agree with Lawrence O’Donnell but on this one I think he is right. Cain diminishes the contributions of great civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King. He thinks he is smart enough that independently of the civil rights movement he became the boss of Godfather Pizza. Selling pizza is not the same as running the Whitehouse or making decisions as president.

I don’t think he has a hope in hell to be nominated and if that improbability happens he has no chance of winning a general election. The following video is worth watching where O’Donnell further discusses this kook with Rev. Al Sharpton, Melissa Harris-Perry and Goldie Taylor.

Rick Perry, Born Again Christian

Picture from the Associated Press.

The Huffington Post had an interesting story on Rick Perry's faith, on how he turned to christianity, and exploring the details behind this conversion.

I don't know if Perry will be nominated and win the presidency, but he is an interesting personality.

Life remains a mystery for me, no single theory can explain its complexity. Just consider the amount of software in just one small human finger, how its movements are determined by a central control centre called the brain. The brain itself consists of an exceptionally complex software.

On IQ I think even George W. Bush will do better compared to Cain. The following video shows his ignorance about politics. Watch and you be the judge.

One advice, if you have just eaten or are going to eat then you should not watch the video because you may throw up. I could not watch the whole video, just the beginning.
