Stephen Harper's Plane Design for $50,000.00

Where are Stephen Harper's priorities? He has money for fake lakes and $50,000 plane designs, but lays off staff at Environment Canada and is stubborn on Attawapiskat.

Environmental protection, First Nations, and helping the poor and vulnerable are not priorities for Stephen Harper, plane designs and fake lakes are.

Trump's At It Again

I can't help but wonder if we pay too much attention to Donald Trump, but like the scene of a car accident, onlookers are compelled to watch. Trump is an arrogant bully, there is no other way to say it. This is well laid out in this Huffington Post article:

Recently, Trump has been handing out lawsuits like candy. He sued former Miss USA contestant Sheena Monnin in June for calling the beauty pageant "rigged" and he is allegedly suing comedian Bill Maher for $5 million after "proving" his biological father is not an orangutan.

Now, a lawsuit by Trump against someone protesting Macy's association with him. Macy's should DUMP TRUMP, he's a bully, an embarrassment, and a liability to their business.

Now What (and Especially WHO) Will Vic Toews Watch?

With all the bad news coming out of Canadian politics - dysfunctional Parliament, an arrogant, indifferent, and hard-rightwing prime minister - great to have some good news. The people spoke out, and won. On internet surveillance, Toews brought forward draconian, Big Brother style proposals with Bill C-30. Now Conservatives have backed off this after HUGE public backlash. The CONS tried Bush style "you're either wish us or against us" scare tactics. People didn't buy it and pushed back.

A very real victory against a draconian proposal by Harper CONS, a real victory by and for the Canadian people.

Bill Maher: Donald Trump's Father is an Orangutan

Hard to believe that this is for real... but it is. Donald Trump has a big ego, and can't take a joke, and... well... frankly, I see the orangutan resemblance. Is comedy even needed? Trump does a good enough job making a joke of himself. There was even a letter from Trump's lawyer to Maher, with a copy of Trump's birth certificate, attesting that he is not the son of an orangutan... why so defensive? Maybe the birth certificate is faked - following birther logic...

Malala Yousafzai and Drone Attacks

It is commendable the great work young Malala has done, promoting education for young girls. This makes it all the more appalling that the Taliban would shoot her, a barbaric action. It is great that she got the treatment she needed, a British doctor stepped up, and she's making a recovery.

However, there is something worth remembering in all this. Many young people are being killed and injured in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Yemen, by un-manned US drone attacks. The attacker is safely far away, in a control room, removed from the violence. Barack Obama has been ordering these drone attacks and evading questions about civilian casualties. This is appalling.

Iceland: Every baby’s name must be approved by the government

For example one cannot name a baby which has’ c’ in it as in the Icelandic language letter ‘ c’ does not exist.

A girl named "Blaer" was not approved because authorities said her name sounded like a male name. Her mother had to fight in courts for 15 years to get the name approved. After fifteen years of court fights a judge decided that "Blaer" means ‘light breeze” so that name was ok. Before that in official books she was just called “a girl”.

Imagine if Stephen Harper had those powers. Every newborn will be named Stephen in case of a male baby and Stephanie in case of a female.

Stephen Harper: Where is he taking Canada?

NO WHERE!

His priorities: To promote the sale of oil, gas and other fossil fuels. Difference between him and a snake-oil salesman is that snake-oil salesman does not create pollution.

To build bigger and bigger prisons and then privatize them. Big business and lots of jobs, eh! But at what cost?

U.S. Gun Deaths Since Sandy Hook Top 1,280

Some of the faces of  the victims of gun violence
Source The Huffington
Post.
This story from the Huffington Post is very relevant, 1,280 gun deaths in the US since Sandy Hook. This story highlights the multitude of gun deaths in the United States, including youth and children whose lives have been taken. These stories do not make the national headlines of a massive one-time killing, but they add up to a staggering tragedy, and of course every human life lost unnecessarily is a tragedy. Here are a few examples from that story of gun deaths over frivolous disputes:

Silly arguments became final arguments. A man was murdered over two broken cigarettes. Another after getting into a spat at a taco truck. Travis Len Massey, 23, was shot and killed by his sister's boyfriend in a family dispute over a missing gun. A 52-year-old Jacksonville man shot and killed a longtime friend over an argument, according to police. When asked what the argument was about, the gunman said he didn't remember, according to a television report.

Here is another example from that story, showing the dangers of guns when it comes to children:

A 6-year-old accidentally killed a 4-year-old. A different 4-year-old accidentally killed a 58-year old.

Overall, rates of gun death and gun violence in the United States are far greater than any other western country.

Americans have to stop listening to fanatical lobbyists like the NRA, there needs to be common sense policy, there needs to be proper gun control. It is an essential matter of public safety.
