John Baird in his Santa's lap

"I am concerned that there is a little bit too much enthusiasm as a result of the different tone. And what we hope is, the world won't take the pressure off the regime (Iran) to make the substantive changes that are needed."

"The stakes are so high, we have to stay focused on what actions they take," Baird said.

I believe that Iran must not develop nuclear weapons. But by the same token Israel must hand over its nuclear and chemical weapons to U.N. to be destroyed. U.S. must demand the same from Israel what it is demanding from Syria and Iran. No double standards and hypocrisy.

Vatican: Jesus was the original tweeter

Jack Dorsey, step aside -- you may be Twitter's first registered user (and hey, founder), but in the eyes of the Vatican, Jesus Christ is the original tweeter.

“Christ used tweets before everyone else, with elementary phrases made up of fewer than 45 characters like 'Love one another,'" said Vatican cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi to a group of Italian newspaper editors Wednesday. "A bit like in television today, he delivered a message through a story or a symbol."

There you go. Jesus knew modern social media more than 2000 years ago. You must read his tweets to live a good and happy life and life hereafter.

He was on his potty break as usual. All previous Prime Ministers - Mulroney, Chretien and Martin spoke at UN General Assembly. Shame.

“In fact, questioning Harper's views of the UN is becoming as much a regular event as the prime minister's streak of missing its annual opening session, even though he's been in New York at the same time for the last two years.

Academics, retired diplomats and the opposition parties insist he's making a huge mistake by, at best, ignoring the UN, or at worst, denigrating its role and importance in a world increasingly fractured by civil war, terrorism and inequality.” CBC

Pakistan: Attack on Christians

George W. Bush spread 'democracy' in Afghanistan. Now Obama is spreading 'democracy' in Afghanistan. Some of that 'democracy' has spilled over into Pakistan. There are about 70,000 Christians in the city of

warning to Syria, saying 'the threat of force is real' if it does not carry out

It looks the deal between the U.S and Russia regarding Syrian chemical weapons needs Israeli blessings. John Kerry, Secretary of State, headed straight for Israel on Sept 15, 2013 to meet with Netanyahu. It appears that Israel has the final say.

Netanyahu sought assurances that all the chemical weapons in Syria must be secured and destroyed. But what about Israel's stockpile of chemical and nuclear weapons? Is there not disconcerting duplicity and hypocrisy when it comes to Israel? It is good that any strike on Syria is averted for now, but it was important for the U.S to seek Israel's approval.

As long as this kind of U.S. policy  continues, the prospects of peace in the Middle-East are grim.

Vladimir Putin: ‘American Exceptionalism’

Putin objected to the ‘American Exceptionalism’ in an Op-ed in The New York Times. He is wrong. ‘American Exceptionalism’ does exist.

“My working and personal relationship with President Obama is marked by growing trust. I appreciate this. I carefully studied his address to the nation on Tuesday. And I would rather disagree with a case he made on American exceptionalism, stating that the United States’ policy is “what makes America different. It’s what makes us exceptional.” It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation.” Putin
  1. Americans own more guns per capita than any other Western Nation.
  2.  Every year 10 to 12 thousand Americans are killed through violence and mostly by gunshots.
  3.  There is more poverty in U.S than any other developed nation.
  4. Sex trade is rampant. Young girls are bought and forced into prostitution. Most of these girls are Asians.
  5.  Discrimination based on culture, religion and race is rampant.
  6.  America has used more weapons of mass destruction than any other nation on earth including atomic bombs and lethal gas weapons.
  7.  America has the worst healthcare system in the whole developed world.
  8.  Freedom of speech which allows KKK spread hate against blacks and other minorities. Violence carried out against minorities
  9. Screwed-up decision-making at Federal level. If President wants a legislation (such as healthcare reform) Congress will stand in the way. And vice-versa given the president’s veto power.
  10. The top 1 percent of U.S. earners collected 19.3 percent of household income in 2012, their largest share in Internal Revenue Service figures going back a century. Last year (2012), the incomes of the top 1 percent rose 19.6 percent compared with a 1 percent increase for the remaining 99 percent.
The list is long and one can go on. So Mr. Putin you are dead wrong.
