Sarah Palin receives a gift from John McCain

Let the music of flip-flops begin. We know McCain's flip-flops, he was against the Bush tax cuts for the rich and now wants to make them permanent, he was for the environment and now he wants to warm up the globe with offshore drilling, he was against GITMO and now he's not so sure about it.

McCain's VP, Sarah Palin, has her share of flip-flops too. On the notorious "bridge to nowhere" in Alaska, she now touts her opposition to it, but actually she was earlier in favour of it, "she was for it before she was against it."

It is clear that McCain chose Palin to pander to Hillary Clinton and women voters - this is condescending to women, McCain's mentality is "just put any woman on the ticket and women will automatically vote for you." McCain might as well have put Britney Spears or Paris Hilton, they're better known. Or Madonna, but she does not like McCain and used the "H" word on him.

Sarah Palin: Some feel more secure now

Sarah Palin, McCain's VP candidate, says she loves moose meat. She also brags that she can kill a moose with her bare hands. Now that she is busy with the campaign to be VP, moose will feel safe.

Other than killing moose, what national experience does she have? What federal experience does she have? It looks that McCain was desperate after the success of the Democratic convention and went for a Hail Mary Pass.

Democratic Party Convention: Day 4, The Final Night

One of the highlights was the Martin Luther King Jr. video commemorating the 45th anniversary of his "I have a dream" speech in Washington DC. I thought it was well done and it inspired many people in the crowd of 85,000. Just before the video, Congressman John Lewis, who marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., gave an impassioned speech. After the video, Martin Luther King's son, Martin Luther King III, gave an excellent speech.

Bill Richardson, Governor of New Mexico, also addressed the convention. He gave a great speech as well. There were also some great singers, including Stevie Wonder who entertained the crowd.

Then Al Gore addressed the crowd, he was exceptionally well received. One of his great lines was, "I believe in recycling, but four more years of the same is ridiculous" in reference to McCain's promise to continue Bush's policies if elected.
Then, of course, was Barack Obama’s acceptance speech. It was a superb political speech. He laid out his agenda and highlighted the weaknesses of his opponent. All in all it was a great night.

It is interesting to point out that some neo-CONS were praying for a big storm for Colorado to disrupt the outdoor fourth day event. Instead, Gustav showed up which could wreak havoc on Louisiana on the anniversary of Katrina. Republicans are considering to postpone their convention because of this storm, this will remind voters of Bush's mishandling of Katrina in 2005. God heard them in reverse.

Democratic Party Convention – Day 3

It was a very successful and memorable day. Hillary Clinton’s move to make Barack Obama’s candidacy unanimous was received with thunderous applause. I gave some details of it in my previous post.

There were some great speakers on Day 3. But I will say Bill Clinton stole the show. He was at his best. The crowd went crazy. He had a hard time starting his speech because the crowd kept on in its standing ovation. He asked them jokingly many times to calm down and sit down. He then gave a superb and gracious speech.

He proved many pundits wrong that he was bitter. He showed no bitterness and was very generous in praising Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Pundits had predicted that Bill Clinton would have difficulty saying the words "Barack Obama." He said "Barack Obama" repeatedly and said Obama was ready to lead. I thought it was one of the best speeches of his career as a politician and, after Ted Kennedy, the most moving speech at the convention. He brought the audience to their feet many times. He said America is at its best when it uses the "power of example and not the example of power" referring to quagmires in Iraq and Afghanistan. I believe his speech will go a long way to bring the Democratic Party together.

John Kerry was another great speaker. He used an interesting approach of comparing Senator McCain with Candidate McCain and how these two (personalities of McCain) are at odd with each other. He added that before there is any presidential candidates’ debate, Senator McCain and Candidate McCain must debate to reconcile their differences. Through humour and eloquence his speech was well received.

The final speaker was Joe Biden. His introduction by his son Beau Biden, who will be sent to Iraq soon, was very moving and touching. Joe Biden himself gave a great speech. He offered some of the sharpest criticism of John McCain – first he said "George..." then said "sorry I mean John McCain."

At the end Barack Obama made a surprise appearance. He spoke briefly and thanked Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton for their support. I thought it was a smart move.

Overall, it was a great night for Democrats.

Barack Obama Nominated by Acclamation: Historic Day

History was made today as the first African American became the Presidential nominee of a major political party in the United States. Obama is highly likely to be the next President, and thus the first African-American President. It was a moving experience for many. When Hillary Clinton moved for the nomination to be made by acclamation, there were tears in the convention centre. One has to admire American democracy where people who once faced segregation and slavery now have opportunities open to them to get elected to the highest office in the land. All the kudos to the United States, it was moving to witness this.

Democratic Party Convention – Day 2

It was another great day. Many great speakers. Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick gave a great speech and the Governor of Montana, Brian Schweitzer, rallied the crowd. Former governor of Virginia Mark Warner, now candidate for US Senate, gave a remarkable keynote speech. Many other great speeches were delivered as well.

However, the closing speech of the night by Hillary Clinton was especially memorable. I thought it was her the best public speech yet. She was gracious in praising Barack Obama and gave him her full endorsement. Any doubters must stop parsing her words now. She emphatically told her supporters to back Barack Obama when she asked them whether they supported only her, or the causes she stands for. She said that if they supported the causes, then it was time to get behind Barack Obama. She said repeatedly that the country couldn’t afford four more years of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney through their surrogate John McCain. Moreover Bill Clinton was beaming through the speech of Ms. Clinton, putting his stamp of approval. It is about time the political pundits stopped making wild speculations about major divisions between the Clinton and Obama camps. It is about time that the McCain camp starts worrying. McCain’s ads using Hillary Clinton look meaningless and humourous at best.

Saakashvili’s Dilemma

He lost all his goats.

Since I first saw Saakashvili on CNN, and many times after, I felt he reminds me of someone, but I wasn't sure who. Then I remembered watching a few episodes of the situation comedy Taxi and the character Latka Gravas played by Andy Kaufman.

Saakashvili sure reminds me of Latka Gravas – the way his character talks and behaves. Saakashvili is a comedian, but a very dangerous one. When he poked the sleeping Russian bear, he not only miscalculated his own military muscle, but the whole global geopolitical situation as well.

Democratic Party Convention: First Night

I thought there were some great moments and great speeches given. Jesse Jackson Jr.’s speech was remarkable. He is one to watch, he is up and coming and might replace Barack Obama in the Senate if Obama is elected President.

Then, of course, there was the speech by Michelle Obama. It was a very moving speech and brought many to tears when she talked about her first child and her husband’s devotion. All in all it was a winner and great closing speech for the night.

However, the most moving moment was when Ted Kennedy showed up. He did this against the advice of his doctors as his chemotherapy had lowered his immune system, thus making crowds a risk for him. He brought many to tears including his own clan. He made an extraordinary appeal for unity in the Democratic Party and praised Barack Obama profusely. I thought he stole the show. He also promised he would show up in January 2009 for Obama’s inauguration ceremony.

Ted Kennedy had his own problems in the past, but after 1980 he devoted his life full-time to the Senate and introduced many reforms. May he have great health and long life.

John McCain's Houses: Senile, or filthy rich? ...Both!

John McCain was asked a simple question, how many houses he and his wife owned. Only someone who is senile or filthy rich will not know the answer. It would look that in his case both apply.

Maybe McCain owns more houses than Saddam Hussein owned palaces. Does this mean that Bush and Cheney will invade him out of jealousy?

The serious question to raise is whether McCain understands the problems of ordinary folks in America. Does he understand problems with home foreclosures, unemployment, hardships and poverty? The obvious answer is big NO.

Harper government: Let us fool the seniors

It is the season to fool the electorate again. So why not seniors first, as they may forget and forgive soon. The Harper government and Jim Flaherty went back on their promise not to impose income tax on Trust Funds. Flaherty flared and imposed that tax and the Toronto exchange went into a tizzy. Every senior who had money in Income Trusts as a nest-egg suffered serious losses in thousands, if not in tens of thousands, of dollars. Canada as a whole was in the hole for $30 billion plus in stock market losses, not to speak of the regular taxes which the government would have collected from seniors anyway.

So one of the Harper government’s first targets is seniors as they attempt to fool them again. I hope seniors do not forget that and teach the Harper government a lesson for breaking its promise. I believe there is blog dealing with this issue, check out:

John McCain: Is citizen Cain stable?

...that is the question Keith Olbermann of MSNBC raised on his program Countdown. It is a legitimate question, especially when McCain changes his positions so often and is so forgetful. He was against Bush’s tax-cuts for the rich, then he was for it, and now he wants to make these cuts permanent.

More recently, he said that Barack Obama is solely driven by ambition. However, in the 2000 campaign he said he cannot claim to be totally altruistic and that he was driven by his ambition to be President of the United States. With that kind of instability, is it safe to have him as a leader of the World's most powerful country? Especially, as he also happens to be trigger-happy. It sounds pretty perilous to have him on the nuke control terminal.

Now he has retreated to his whine cellar as his permanent calling until an appropriate treatment centre can be found for him.

Some people will do anything to get their way, exploit, hustle and make money in the process, and Corsi is one of them. It is these types of people who are the scum of the earth.

On a different note, I earlier predicted, after Bhutto’s assassination, that Musharraf of Pakistan would not stay in power through 2008. He did resign this Monday. I hope the elected government does better, as past elected governments in Pakistan have been corrupt. Pakistan is a nuclear nation and it’s very important for world peace that it is stable. What was he looking at when George W. Bush said that he looked into Putin’s eyes and got a sense of his soul? He must have been looking at his feet and saw a sole or soles. This monkey Bush is a poor judge of anything, but he being a judge of a person’s character is scary.

By pushing missile defence into Eastern Europe and now into Poland, Bush was daring the Russian bear. Now we can see the consequences. All we need is another arms race and another cold war as it might be the final straw on the camel's back for some of the struggling economies around the world.

We definitely do not need a war between the US and Russia. Given their destructive arsenals it may be the end of the globe as we know it. Some sensible leader needs to reverse this trend. Mikheil Saakashvili and the Russian Bear

I have a difficult time believing Putin, but after watching Mikhail Gorbachev on CNN it is obvious that Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili did poke the Russian bear. Saakashvili miscalculated NATO support and especially US support. After he received all the weaponry and accolades from the US, he concluded that once he stirred up trouble the US would fall in line and send troops to support him. Instead he got a big shocker. Now, he is behaving like a crybaby and constantly whining on CNN on a daily basis. His days as President may be over soon.

This Saakashvili guy should remember that the Reagan administration provided Saddam Hussein with weapons and tons of money to invade Iran. That war continued for eight years and resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths on both sides. Then of course George W. Bush invaded Iraq, captured Saddam Hussein and hung him. Maybe a similar end is waiting for Saakashvili. It may not be the Bush administration though, it could be Putin operatives, nonetheless with the same fatal results. So the moral of the story is that if you rub shoulders with the US administration to earn favours and you are a small country, those are the pay-offs at the end.

Vladimir Putin and George W. Bush negotiate Georgian situation ;)

Does Putin really care? The United States no longer has the military muscle or the moral authority to preach that a sovereign country cannot invade another sovereign country - because this is what the United States did in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Bush and McCain can do all the sabre rattling they want, but they have nothing to back up these threats to Russia. Now Mikhail Gorbachev, the Western friendly leader who presided over the demise of the USSR, says that the Whitehouse gave the green light to President Saakashvili of Georgia to invade South Ossetia. If this is true, what were the officials at the Whitehouse thinking? Most of the American boots are stuck in the sand and mud in Iraq and Afghanistan. The US cannot militarily back up Mikheil Saakashvili.

Putin's boots are now banging Bush’s head and saying "go ahead make my day, what can you do," just like Nikita Khrushchev banged his shoes on a table at the United Nations many moons ago. The best the US can hope for is a ceasefire.

I suppose black gold right now rules the world. 30% of European oil is imported from the Russia and European nations are in no shape to make threats to Russia, fearing that oil taps may be turned off. There goes the NATO solidarity. If the UN tries to pass any resolution, Russia of course will veto it. In other words the US ability to take any drastic action is zero, zilch, nano.

While all this is going on, China is laughing at them all as it is going to be the next superpower in the world. China owns a big chunk of US corporate wealth. Moreover China is one of the biggest lenders to the US government to keep it afloat. Who knows, down the road China may hold the puppeteer strings for the occupants of the Whitehouse. All in all it does not look good for the US and Western Europe.

The current situation that the US finds itself in is all because of Bush and Cheney. Bush has spent all his "political capital" nationally and internationally, and he is not worth very much now.

When the Georgian President spoke in Tbilisi, he mentioned McCain but made no mention of George W. Bush. That shows you what a lame duck Bush has become.

Beijing Olympic: George W. Bush the Champ... or Chimp

George W. Bush has screwed up this world more so than any other world leader in recent history. What Iran could not do itself, Bush did for Iran, bring down Saddam Hussein. Now Iran has come out as a superpower of the region with influence over Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinian territories. The strongest ally of US in the Arab world, Saudi Arabia, now looks very weak.

This Chimp has succeeded to do all this.

Also, the botched invasion of Afghanistan has strengthened the fundamentalism there and now in Pakistan as well. This botched invasion has resulted in a very dangerous situation in the Indian subcontinent. It would look that India is busy inciting Pashtuns against Pakistan.

Kashmir is another fire keg where Pakistan has its influence because of the Muslim majority there. A war between India and Pakistan will be a global tragedy as both nations have nuclear capability and, given the instability among the top leadership of these nations, and the probability of rash decisions, it could lead to catastrophe at the global level.

Now there is a crisis in Georgia. If US had any moral authority and military muscle left it could have negotiated a peaceful diplomatic solution with NATO power behind its efforts, but with the US stuck in the quagmire of Iraq and Afghanistan, including some NATO forces, that does not look likely. This emboldens Russia to do whatever it wishes. The Georgian leader is another chimp who chose a lousy time to assert its control over a separatist region.

George W. Bush has screwed up this world and its stability for personal gain - that is to control oil wells in the Middle East which he does not have either now. So this idiotic leader can only be characterized as a chimp.

John McCain's new invention

His solution to inflation, he has a gadget for only $25, though you can buy it for a Looney or a buck at any gas station in your neighbourhood.

Seriously though, McCain was making fun of Obama's statement that people should properly inflate their tires and get their cars regularly tuned up to save gas. NASCAR agrees with that as does AAA and many other experts. If everyone did it, it could save up to 800,000 barrels of gas per day in the US and save money for consumers.

By contrast, off-shore drilling may take 10-15 years to produce gas for the market and then it will not be free (and it may not even be sold to US markets). Imagine how much gas we can save until then by just properly inflating our tires and through proper tune-ups. I think McCain has really gone loopy.

Now he's flip-flopped and says that inflating tires and tune ups do save gas and that all must do it. Should this deflate his ego? I think McCain needs tuning up himself and to lose some gas.

Trolls - Interesting Story to Read

Thanks to Blues Clair for the link to this story.

The Trolls Among Us
One afternoon in the spring of 2006, for reasons unknown to those who knew him, Mitchell Henderson, a seventh grader from Rochester, Minn., took a .22-caliber rifle down from a shelf in his parents’ bedroom closet and shot himself in the head.

The next morning, Mitchell’s school assembled in the gym to begin mourning. His classmates created a virtual memorial on MySpace and garlanded it with remembrances. One wrote that Mitchell was "an hero to take that shot, to leave us all behind. God do we wish we could take it back. . . . "

Someone e-mailed a clipping of Mitchell’s newspaper obituary to MyDeathSpace.com, a Web site that links to the MySpace pages of the dead. John McCain not so subtle

"I am John McCain, and I approve this message."

John McCain is desperate. He will approve any message which he thinks will help him win the Whitehouse.

After reading many commentaries, and listening to many commentators on Television - including David Gergen - I have reached the conclusion that McSame and his surrogates are carrying out a subtle, and not so subtle, racist campaign. The latest is manifested in their ads featuring Britney Spears and Paris Hilton and comparing them to Barack Obama -- some say a subtle hint of two air-headed white women with a black man (similar to what was done to Congressman Harold Ford Jr., an African-American, when he ran for Senate in Tennessee -- this particular ad was roundly criticised).

Then there was the Moses ad which gave the subliminal message (understandable to many in the South) that Barack Obama is an uppity black man who doesn't know his place. McSame and his surrogates are trying to do everything to scare people by conveying the message, "can you really see this man in the Whitehouse, and can he really be leader of the World's most powerful country?"

Too bad for McSame, he is fast losing support because of these tactics. The latest polls on MSNBC show McSame losing support even among so-called "hard-working white people" by 8-9 points.

McSame should go and hug Dubya a few times, maybe then his Karma will come back.

John McCain at the Boston Seaport

McCain makes the claim that he is not racist. Yet he and his surrogates keep reminding Americans that, "Oh yeah, he (Obama) speaks well but you cannot 'trust him' as a President." His campaign puts Obama with airheads like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton (the latter whose parents are actually McCain donors) to try and say Obama is just another airhead. Yet they forget, Obama is a Harvard Law graduate and, at 47, he has many achievements to his credit including being a State Senator in Illinois and being elected, in 2004, to the US Senate with the largest majority in Illinois history.

McCain must be whipping his ass over insisting that Obama visit Iraq and Afghanistan -- Obama's trip was very successful and the Iraqi Prime Minister agreed with Obama's sixteen month withdrawal plan. Now McCain has flip-flopped and says it's a good plan.

Since the Iraq issue is gone for McCain, he's going for Obama's ethnicity, implying the risk of not having a President who looks like him, and who doesn't look like other Presidents either.

What looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and walks like a duck, must be a duck. McCain and his surrogates are carrying out a smear campaign and sending out subliminal cues highlighting that Obama's middle name is "Hussein" and that he's black, thus he's risky, so watch out.

Respected Washington insider, David Gergen, who has worked for both Republican and Democratic administrations, had some strong words about how McCain is using coded language to attack Obama's race,

Mulroney-Schreiber-gate

Income Trust-gate

Afghanistan-gate

Cadman-gate

In order to please his master, Harper has put our soldiers in the jaws of death. We have also become part of the atrocities against Afghan civilians thanks to Bush's ruthless policies. Harper's speeches and agenda seem to come straight out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Washington D.C.

Watch out Canada! It is all on Canada's back!

Dancing with the Stars - TV show. Dan Quayle a contestant?

Rumours are that Dan Quayle will be on the next episode of Dancing with the Stars. That will be worth watching. I can see the utter frustration on the behalf of dance instructor and two time champion Cheryl Burke if she is his trainer.

But I suppose "the future will be better tomorrow" as Dan would say.
