China: America is a violent society and is guilty of severe human rights violations

U.S criticized China for human rights violations in a report. China prepared its own report on U.S which states that U.S is the most violent society in the world and human rights violations are very frequent in U.S.

“The United States' own tarnished human rights record has made it in no condition, on moral, political or legal basis, to act as the world's "human rights justice," to place itself above other countries and release the Country Reports on Human Rights Practices year after year to accuse and blame other countries. We hereby advise the U.S. government once again to look squarely at its own grave human rights problems, to stop the unpopular practices of taking human rights as a political instrument for interference in other countries' internal affairs, smearing other nations'images and seeking its own strategic interests, and to cease using double standards on human rights and pursuing hegemony under the pretext of human rights.

Quite a lot Americans have no access to health care: report

• U.S. leader in gun violence, gun deaths: report
• Millions homeless in U.S.: report
• Ethnic minorities severely discriminated against in US: report”

GOP Convention in Tampa and Hurricane Isaac

Although Isaac will by-pass Tampa and unfortunately its main impact will be on New Orleans, Louisiana. However, rain and thunderstorm is possible for Tampa. It looks nature does not like Republicans. Instead of speeches maybe we would only hear thunderstorm going on outside the convention hall.

"9 A**holes Throughout History"

Donald Trump made near the top of the list.

"The archetype of the species. Crossing genres, Trump exemplifies all the ways an asshole can capture our attention on grounds of assholism alone. Steve Jobs and Mel Gibson would be remembered for their achievements even if they had been even-tempered and self-effacing, whereas a non-asshole Trump would have no more claim on our attention than most of the other hundred-odd Americans who have more money than he does. But Trump is a pure asshole in a way that very few people are ever a pure anything. And when he briefly led in the Republican presidential polls in the 2011 season, it wasn't because the base was deluded about his being an asshole, but because that was exactly what they were shopping for. (Trump? Gingrich? Cain? Santorum?--really?)"

Ann Coulter takes the #1 spot.

Assange speaks to media from Ecuadorian embassy

Speaking from the balcony of the embassy, where he is staying to avoid arrest by British police who want to extradite him to Sweden, Assange said the United States risked shunting the world into an era of journalistic oppression.

"As WikiLeaks stands under threat, so does the freedom of expression and the health of all of our societies," Assange said, dressed in a maroon tie and blue shirt.

"I ask President Obama to do the right thing: the United States must renounce its witch-hunt against WikiLeaks," he said in a 10-minute speech which he ended with two thumbs up to the world's media.”

Multiculturism vs. Redneck - $100 Bill Too Asian?

Redneck prevails.

Martine Warren, a scientific advisor for the Bank of Canada has
a close look at the bank's new circulating $100 bill, Canada's
first polymer bank note, in Toronto on Monday Nov. 14, 2011.
THE CANADIAN PRESS/Nathan Denette.

“OTTAWA - The Bank of Canada purged the image of an Asian-looking woman from its new $100 banknotes after focus groups raised questions about her ethnicity.……..

The Strategic Counsel conducted the October 2009 focus groups in Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and Fredericton, at a cost of $53,000.

The Toronto groups were positive about the image of an Asian woman because "it is seen to represent diversity or multiculturalism.”.

In Quebec, however, "the inclusion of an Asian without representing any other ethnicities was seen to be contentious."

One person in Fredericton commented: "The person on it appears to be of Asian descent which doesn't rep(resent) Canada. It is fairly ugly.”.

Canadian United Church’s resolution on Israel/Palestinian situation

The United Church is critical of Israel and the treatment/ plight of Palestinians. Spokesperson Sid Shniad of Independent Jewish Voices has some interesting points of view. Rabbi Reuben Poupko defends Israel’s position. You be the judge.

I believe the United Church is showing courage and fairness to pass such a resolution. More organizations in the West need to speak out to end the atrocities against Palestinians.

Fareed Zakaria in Deep Trouble

Fareed Zakaria plagarized an article for Time magazine as well as some of his presentations for CNN. Both organizations have suspended Zakaria, CNN's suspension is a month long. Furthermore, Yale University is considering to remove Zakaria from some of the powerful commissions he was on. Zakaria charges $75,000 for his speeches - given to some big financial companies. It looks some (many?) of those speeches will be cancelled as well.

Personally, I was disappointed in Zakaria when he repeated - several times - that he supported the Iraq War. I always wondered why, I thought he was either a sell-out or brain-washed. It looks both could be the case.

Zakaria likes to associate himself with the rich and powerful. His views thus tend to be those of the elite, or the most popular view of the day (this was a charge in a New Republic article that named him among overrated thinkers).

While it was likely one of his assistants who penned the plagarized article, Zakaria has too big an ego to admit the writing wasn't his.

'THE LITTLE CANADIAN TOWN THAT MIGHT DESTROY THE WORLD' The Huffington Post Canada

The above was the top headline in The Huffington Post Canada. That is how scary and hideous the Tar Sands project is. Our great leader Stephen Harper continues to promote it and it is his government's top priority.

"Whether to build the international pipeline, designed to convey the Tar-sands oil from the massive deposits in Western Canada to the Texas Gulf Coast for refining, has not only become an explosive issue in this year's presidential election, it has become central to the debate over the future habitability of planet earth."
