WikiLeaks or FloodGates
It does not look good for the U.S., for some other NATO countries, for Karzai, the King of Saudi Arabia and many others. The King of Saudi Arabia wanted U.S to bomb bomb bomb Iran like McCain. This is going to bungle international relations. However, there is some good side to it and that is hopefully world leaders will be more careful in future but then you can’t depend on that. We humans don’t seem to learn from history. Recommend this post
Afghanistan: Detention and abuse of children
Last night, November 28, 2010 there was a very disturbing story on CBC National News about the detention of Afghan children by the Canadian army. According to this story such children are kept in Canadian custody indefinitely and then are often handed over to Afghans who regularly abuse such children. Is that what is called democracy? Is that the democracy we are spreading in Afghanistan?
Now Harper wants to train Afghan military. Since we are such ‘great experts’ why not? I don’t feel good to be Canadian. It would look more harm is being done than social justice in Afghanistan. Another good example of such harm is propping up one of the most corrupt governments, that of Karzai.

Okay admission time. I did watch two episodes of Sarah Palin’s reality show. It is great, wonderful, breath-taking and spectacular. I am talking about Alaska’s scenery and its natural beauty. U.S negotiating with Taliban?
U.S negotiators were supposed to be negotiating with a Taliban named Mullah Akhtar Mansour. This Taliban negotiator was recommended by General Stanley McChrystal and met Karzai many times and he also met General David Petraeus. Now it turns out that this guy was no Mullah Akhtar Mansour and was a fake. U.S negotiators found out about this fake guy when he had already gotten hundreds of thousands of U.S dollars for being a good Taliban and willing to negotiate. Now he has completely disappeared. In other words, U.S and NATO maybe were financing Taliban. Good one, eh! We are making such a big fool of ourselves. So sad.
This is indeed very scary. Now there is talk of training the Afghan army. Are we sure? Maybe we are training Taliban who then will be better equipped to fight U.S and other NATO forces. This is a big time fiasco.

“OTTAWA - Former Liberal leader Stephane Dion on Wednesday (Nov 24, 2010) questioned why Canadian Armed Forces need to train Afghan military to fight the Taliban, when the Afghans were strong enough to defeat the forces of the Soviet Union in the 1980s.” The Vancouver Sun
It makes sense that if Afghans can defeat former Soviet Union and so far U.S, Canada and other NATO forces have made not much of headway then who is the better trained to fight in Afghanistan? Who is in need of training?
Does this also mean that there is a revolt within the Liberal caucus over Afghanistan? It looks war hawk Michael Ignatieff is in further trouble.

Prince Charles on Climate Change
The British media mostly depicted Prince Charles as a wimp. The rest of the world media mirrored the British media. Because of that I had a poor image of Prince Charles. Then yesterday I watched a one hour interview of Prince Charles by NBC anchor Brian Williams. It was surprising to know that this man stood for many great causes including climate change and that he has been at it long before Al Gore’s movie An Inconvenient Truth – Prince Charles has been at it for 20 years now. Why has the media paid all kinds of attention to Al Gore and not to Prince Charles?

Child Labour in the Western World
Then there is child pornography and child prostitution and in that respect we are with rest of the world or the incidences of such crimes are higher than some Asian countries.
The incidences of child pornography and prostitution is lower in some Asian countries because of close-knit families and what is called informal social control. Many sociological studies have revealed such a trend in certain Asian countries vs. the west.
Then Obama and Harper are tripping over each other to do business with India, notorious for child labour. Is Obama or Harper going to raise questions about that? I doubt it.

Why are we here? Evolution vs. Creationism
Which one is the descendent of a monkey and which one is God sent.
I read this fascinating article on Huffington Post entitled “Why Are You Here? A New Theory May Hold the Missing Piece”. My views are similar as in the article by Robert Lanza, M.D. Creationism is too simplistic a view of the world. The mystery of life is much more complex and evolution theory has its own shortcomings as Dr. Lanza points out, "The evolutionists are trying to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. They think we, the observer, are a mindless accident, debris left over from an explosion that appeared out of nowhere one day."
To scientists,
Keep at it as our knowledge of the mystery of life is incomplete.

Scientology and other religions
There was a fascinating documentary on Scientology on the CBC program, the Passionate Eye. Another big fraud in the name of religion. As I go through the journey of life I am feeling more and more repulsed by almost all organized religions. I do believe in spiritualism but I don’t much care for organized religion. I had some personal experiences that gave me some hints about spiritualism – I should emphasize the word “hint” as beyond that I have no knowledge.
Religions and their fanatic followers are more interested in rituals than the spirit of the religion as such. And we all know some of these fanatics could be very dangerous indifferent to any particular religion. The real spiritual experiences are hard to explain and are very personal.

Keith Olbermann suspended indefinitely without pay
I was shocked to hear this, Keith Olbermann suspended for donating to three Democratic candidates without obtaining management's authorization. I understand this is MSNBC's policy, to obtain approval before donating to a political candidate, but suspending is excessive.
I enjoy watching Olbermann's show. Also, it was him who took MSNBC from being a struggling network to beating CNN. He brought in Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell and defined MSNBC's prime-time lineup. I think MSNBC President Phil Griffin was worried more about his ego than company policy when he made this move.

CNN and Rick Sanchez
I was never a fan of Rick Sanchez. I rarely watched his program, and the few times I did I found it greatly lacking. I believe he was wrong when he called Jon Stewart a bigot. Stewart, who is Jewish himself, makes fun of everyone - including Jews - as he's a comedian.
However, CNN going to the length of firing Sanchez was absolutely ridiculous. Sanchez said that CNN and other media are controlled by Jews. By firing him, they did little to disprove this assertion. Jon Stewart himself said that the firing was wrong.
It is no wonder that CNN - once a powerful and respected news network - is now lagging behind FOX and MSNBC. There is a serious problem with CNN's management and the handling of Sanchez is proof of that.
