Unemployment Insurance in US

A very moving interview of an unemployed woman by Keith Olbermann of MSNBC, Countdown. Why Tea Party/Repugs are determined to punish the very people they want to govern. It is about time that Dems pick up a strong hammer of societal well-being and crush this noisy, ugly Tea Kettle. What happened to Abe Lincoln’s concept of governing: "Government of the people, by the people, for the people. "?

  1. Too late. Democrats can do squat now. The time was before the midterms when they had majorities in both houses.

As for the tea-party/Rethugs voting against Unemployment benefits, well, sorry to sound this cold, but that was part of their campaign platform; it was always a part of their goal of less taxes/smaller government/cut the spending/let the private sector take over, yet these idiots voted overwhelmingly voted for them, thus, no social welfare state, which includes unemployment benefits. They get what they voted for. They will vote them in again in 2012 with either a president Palin or Donald Trump.

  2. CK, I agree with you. However, I think that if Dems had backbone they could have done it during lame-duck session of the Congress as new Repugs dominated House of Representatives does not come into effect until January 2011. Dems lack that backbone.

  3. I'm not overly familiar with how things work in US Congress. Is there enough time during the lame duck session to pass anything? More to the point, are they allowed? Or are they simply rendered as caretakers until the change of the guard?

  4. I believe lame-duck Congress can do it. My understanding of the operation of the Congress is that they do have the power but Dems lack the guts.

The new Congress may try to turn back the clock but then it becomes a bit difficult.
