North Korea Puts Army on 'Quasi State of War

This sounds very scary because if there is a war between North and South Korea it will spread if countries like U.S. and Russia get involved.

More than 100 North Korean shells out of 500 or so fired landed in South Korean waters, prompting marines from the South to fire back with more than 300 rounds in the North's waters, defense officials in Seoul said.

Seoul also scrambled F-15s on its side of the maritime border, they said.

"We believe the North's maritime firing is a planned provocation and an attempt to test our military's determination to defend the Northern Limit Line and to get an upper hand in South-North relations," South Korean Defence Ministry spokesman Kim Min-seok said.

North Korea and robotic army

Almost all countries do a good job of brainwashing their soldiers - its all for patriotism and thus killing the enemy is justified. However, dictatorial governments do even a better job. North Korea is a good example. The picture below puts some light on this phenomena.

North Korea: Interesting pictures

Every summer the North Koreans hold the Arirang games, or "mass games," where perhaps as many as 100,000 performers dance and do gymnastics to a patriotic theme. The real stars of the show may be these boys: the flashcard flippers, who with split-second precision form colorful mosaics. But this is what the boys behind the cards look like before the extravaganza begins: thousands of them — all dressed in white with their stacks of cards. The boys reportedly rehearse for months to get their moves down. If you look closely, you will find some taking a pre-"games" nap on their cards.

The Arirang games flashcard mosaics usually have patriotic themes. This year's theme highlights the exploits of North Korean soldiers in the 1950-1953 war. What you don't see on television or even across May Day stadium, unless you have a long camera lens or binoculars, are the heads of some of the boys popping up above their flashcards. I'm not sure if they were allowed to peek, but perhaps they wanted to see the big show on the field for themselves.

North Korea and Dictatorship

It is unfortunate that in dictatorships like the one in North Korea people are treated like robots. The following picture is beautiful but one feels sadness about the control of dictatorship. In this case Kim Jong-un is the master.

Kim Jong Un Threats for Nuclear War

Is Kim Jong Un crazy or what? If he attacks South Korea or U.S hell may broke loose. Despite U.S's problems (which are too many) it has nuclear capabilities that it can destroy North Korea 100 times over. Then imagine China and Russia getting involved,it will be a disaster of the proportion that the world has not seen before.

I agree that both North Korea and Iran must not have nuclear weapons especially when leadership in both these countries is erratic.

Unfortunately the U.S does not have moral authority to tell any other nation not to have nuclear weapons when the U.S itself has the largest nuclear arsenal in the world.

It is the U.S who has armed Israel with a nuclear arsenal to the teeth – 150 plus nuclear war heads. I believe the U.S also assisted other countries to acquire nuclear weapons. Nations which are so-called friends to the U.S. South Korea is an example.

All this nuclear madness must stop. All countries should refrain from acquiring nuclear weaponry. U.S nuclear weapons have the capacity to destroy all life on the planet earth many times over and so does Russia. Any nuclear war will be Armageddon for the world.

Global warming and nuclear weaponry are the major threats to human existence.

John Bolton is Mad

John Bolton, the former US Ambassador to the United Nations under Bush, is very critical of Bill Clinton for making the trip to North Korea. He says it constituted negotiating with the terrorists and giving ransom. We may not like Kim Jong Il but he is head of state of North Korea. The journalists by mistake, or whatever the circumstance were, crossed the border from South Korea into North Korea and were arrested. They were given 12 years hard labour imprisonment and Bill Clinton got them released. And to John Bolton, what is wrong with that?

Bolton should ask the families of Laura Ling and Euna Lee the journalists, how do they feel? He should tell these families that Laura Ling and Euna Lee's lives don't matter and his Bush era misguided and dangerous policies are more important.

Was it not Bolton's party leader who made a much bigger move, in the case of North Korea a sitting US President was not the visitor, but when Nixon visited China. At the time, it was a much bigger standoff between China and the US. Henry Kissinger made many trips to pave the way for Nixon. That one moment might have changed world history when Nixon met Chinese leaders which paved the way for the fall of the iron curtain which brought down the USSR. Someone must tell Bolton that diplomacy does work.

Also, why not release some of the hostages the US is holding at Gitmo. Also the people of Iraq and Afghanistan are being held hostage because of Bush/Bolton policies. Clinton has opened a big door to North Korea to negotiate on other issues such as nuclear proliferation. If the US learns to give some respect to leaders of other nations it may open many more doors compared to gun diplomacy carried out by Bush and the likes of Bolton.

North Korea and Israel - Flashpoints for World Peace

Both North Korea and Israel are dangerous flash points which can start a perilous war the world has yet to see.

Let us look at North Korea first. Kim Jong-il is one sick puppy. He is in poor health, old and dangerously eccentric. He is bent upon making North Korea a big nuclear power and it does not matter to him if his people have shelter over their heads or food to eat. It has become a strange country reflecting Kim Jong-il's eccentricities and it looks that no one even smiles in North Korea, they look like a people from another planet. Kim Jong-il's arms build up is making South Korea, Japan, and many other countries very nervous. If Kim Jong-il takes some erratic action of attacking another country, then world watch out, it is going to be a very perilous war.

Equally volatile and dangerous, if not more so, is Israel. Especially under the leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu as Prime Minister and Avigdor Lieberman as a Foreign Minister. Netanyahu is known to be hawkish and not ready to accept any agreement which will involve the creation of an independent Palestinian state. His recent statements that settlements will continue in the West Bank is making the Obama administration very nervous . As far as Lieberman is concerned, he is "foreign" to any negotiations and would like Palestinians pushed out of Gaza and the West Bank to neighbouring Arab countries, or just plain obliterate the Palestinians. This does not look good for Middle East peace.

What is the most troubling about Israel is that successive US administrations have armed Israel to the teeth. Israel wants that no neighbouring countries should have any weapon and if a Palestinian kid has a rock to throw at an Israel military tank, then he is "armed and dangerous" and must be dealt with, even killed.

Moreover, Israel has over 100 nuclear war heads thanks to successive US administrations however any neighbouring countries dare not experiment with developing a nuclear arsenal. For that reason Israel made aerial attacks on Syria and Iraq in the past to destroy their suspected nuclear plants. Similar threats are being made to Iran. To make the area nuclear free it is extremely important that Israel is nuclear free too, otherwise Iran and Syria and other Arab countries will try to arm themselves with nuclear weapons to protect themselves from Israel. Israel cannot forever behave like a master in the Middle East and dictate terms. Furthermore, Israel needs to pull back to pre-1967 boundaries if it wants peace. Israel also has to let Palestinians have their independence. It is a simple equation of human nature. No nation or people can be subjugated indefinitely.

The Arab world is already on edge because of the Bush administration's disastrous policies, especially the invasion of Iraq. Any actions by Israel will be throwing gasoline on the fire.

If the world, especially the influential nations like the US, Russia and China, do not take care of these problems then we are in for a rough ride or a big explosion where nothing will be left to ride anymore and it will be a one big crash and burn catastrophe. We need to do something about the Kim Jong-ils, Benjamin Netanyahus and Avigdor Liebermans of this world.
