Ahmadshah Malgarai (aka Pasha) is an Afghani translator for the Canadian military who currently lives in Canada. More recently he testified before a Parliamentary Committee and gave details of the torture of Afghan detainees stating that Canadian officials and military brass had the full knowledge of it and if the generals say they did not know about it then they are lying. If Peter Mackay says he did not know about it then he is lying.
He also said that an innocent young Afghan man was shot in the head by Canadian soldiers and then efforts were made to cover up this incident. Maybe Pasha will be next on Harper's hit list as he is embarrassing to his government. Will Harper deport him? Pasha also said that his family has been threatened by Taliban and government officials are not helping him to bring his family to Canada.

Peter Mackay keeps saying that allegations that Afghan detainees handed over to Afghans were tortured cannot be substantiated by facts. What facts? Would he care to elaborate?
Peter, for Pete sake, the writing is on the wall. Your own senior diplomat is saying it happened. His fellow diplomats here in Canada and Europe are backing him up. Media in Canada and Britain are saying that this is the case. Even a very right leaning paper, the National Post, is saying that there is a problem, they had an editorial siding with Mr. Colvin.
Peter, have you learned nothing from Maher Arar's case who was detained in the U.S? Our law enforcement agencies provided unsubstantiated information about him, and he was sent to Syria where he was tortured. Canada got a black eye for that and settled for millions of dollars with Mr. Arar. When will you learn? Do yourself a favour and resign, as the defence portfolio is not your cup of tea.
According to Defence Minister Peter Mackay, Richard Colvin's statements cannot be backed by facts. Which facts is Mackay talking about? Why does he not state these facts?
What possibly can be the motive of Richard Colvin to lie? To get fired from a high profile, well paid job in Washington D.C? Although Peter Mackay says he will not fire him and he will leave it up to to the civil servants. Right! He is really telling the truth now, is he not. My golly what a yahoo Mackay is; he really thinks people will believe him, Mackay, who wants to keep his job and that of his boss Harper's and will do anything for it; or would people believe Calvin who apparently has no motives (other than self-destruction?) as in the long run his career may be ruined.
Here is Mackay's statement:
"I don't believe it's credible. I don't believe it's backed up by fact and what we have to deal with in a parliamentary hearing, as we do in a court of law, or another judicial or public inquiry, is evidence that can be substantiated."
It is amazing that Stephen Harper, Peter Mackay and Rick Hillier all either have amnesia or don't recall (typical excuse in order to hide the truth) receiving any memo from Richard Colvin, a senior Canadian diplomat in Afghanistan now posted in the US. In these memos, it was stated that detainees handed over by Canadian troops to Afghan authorities were routinely tortured. How can they not know? They have lost any credibility, not that they had any. It does not look good on Canada. We wittingly or unwittingly were party to war crimes. How can we condemn Rwanda or other similar war atrocities by other societies when we ourselves were heavily involved? Very sad times for Canada.

Harper and partners have been telling us a story from the Arabian Nights - ie. Ali Baba and the 40 thieves plus magic lamp. We were told in 2006 by Harper that we were winning in Afghanistan. That how important the mission was and that you were either with him or with the Taliban. My oh my times change. Now we hear of negotiation with the Taliban and that we can try and contain the insurgency but there is no such thing as winning. Yes we lost the lives of over 100 soldiers but someone please tell me what are our gains.
In last few days Peter Mackay - or Peter Pan or, even more appropriately, Ali Baba - has dropped by in Afghanistan. Now he knows that victory was always elusive and he started talking about rebuilding and reconstruction of Afghanistan. Then he tells us that for reconstruction why there should be a time limit when we can do it indefinitely. What a balderdash. C'mon, why not admit that our mission is a failure and soldiers' lives were lost, and alot of taxpayers money was spent for what goal to be achieved. Ali Baba and the 40 thieves plot intensifies.
