Harper is a perfect domesticated poodle to George W. Bush. We as Canadians do not deserve this man as our Prime Minister. Even the US presidential candidates (both McCain and Obama) have indicated they will close Gitmo. They gave many hints to the Harper government that he should repatriate Khadr, but Harper is too afraid of his master George W. Bush.
Khadr was a child when he was captured in Afghanistan. He should at least be considered a child soldier and tried in an appropriate court in Canada, not in some kangroo military court at Gitmo whose sole goal is to get a conviction and hang him or put the detainees in torture chambers for life.
We Canadians believe in basic human rights. It is time we assert those rights for our citizens.

The hypocrisy of Bush Administration is incredible. They repeatedly said they would not talk to Iran (John McSame himself said this as well) and then they send the Under Secretary of State to France to talk to high officials from Iran. They have to make up their mind.
As per John McCain, "Iran is training Al-Qaeda forces" and now there's trouble on the "Iraq-Pakistan border."
I suppose the Al-Qaeda that Iran trains sends them to Pakistan via Iraq, and they end up on the Iraq-Pakistan border ;)

Poor Dubya is misunderstood. Reliable sources from the Whitehouse said that he has been trying for a while, but his magic wand did not work. Only then did he publicly disclose that the magic wand does not work ;)
The same sources also said that he has not given up. He continues to wave and practice with his magic wand. He has even given up golf and jogging for the magic wand, but the damn gas prices are too stubborn ;)

Poor McCain is being misunderstood. When he says “bomb, bomb, bomb Eyeron” he is talking about a guy by the name of Ron. You see, this guy has very scary eyes, that is why he is known as EYEron. Ron bullied McCain through elementary and high school. So do you blame McCain if he wants to bomb Eyeron? ;)
Now a little analysis. Does McCain really know what is he talking about? Bush’s Under-Secretary of State is already talking to Iranian High Officials. The US State Department is also considering a half-way type Embassy in Iran. It looks as if Bush’s Foreign Affairs advisor is Obama, not Condi Rice. More on this subject matter coming up.
We talked about Queen Cindy. This was year 2008. Let us now talk about King John. He was a very caring man. He wanted a peaceful World where he ruled. In his World, anyone who disobeyed him must be bombed to extinction. He felt that way about Eyeron (Iran) who was not obeying his orders.
Then he felt that Czechoslovakia was not very well treated by the tyrants of the Soviet Union. He worried about Czechoslovakians all the time. One day he decided to get into in his plane and fly to Czechoslovakia to find out its problems first hand. He had some difficulty finding Czechoslovakia and he has not given up. He is also searching for the Soviet Union. He is a very experienced pilot and a determined man who is flying that plane and looking for Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union to this day. I hear next he plans to visit Prussia and the Ottoman Empire.
If I remember and recollect properly, it is also known as Alzheimers. Is it possible that King McCain is already afflicted by it? More to come on this story.

I just watched CBC News and their extended coverage of the Khadr video, it's absolutely horrible and uncivilized the way a 16 year old was being treated. He was a minor. According to reports, he was mistreated everywhere, including at Guantanamo Bay - especially by American interrogators.
Even one of the investigators from Canada there, whose a retired person, said a young person like Khadr shouldn't be in a place like that. He should be brought to Canada and treated. Now I'm totally convinced that it's immoral, unethical and wrong.
I am completely ashamed that Stephen Harper -- who is a complete poodle to Bush -- is taking no action. Our Prime Minister, our leaders and our politicians must be ashamed of themselves that a young sixteen year old was put in a horrible place like that, treated in a horrible way, and still held there in a place recognized internationally as immoral, unethical and wrong. This is a very sad day in Canadian history.

This video may not be clearly audible, but it's obvious that Khadr is a very scared adolescent.
I should add that I care passionately about human rights and the past record of CSIS is not good. To start with, they gave false information about Maher Arar that led him to be sent by American authorities to Syria where he was tortured.
It's sad that these officials (CSIS and related agencies) have not been made accountable.
Before I go any further, I should add that there are pending allegations against Omar Khadr. But, I believe that habeas corpus is applicable not only to the Bushes and to the Cheneys of the World, but to everyone, no matter who they are or where they are on the Globe.
I strongly believe that Khadr should be tried in a civilian court and not in a military court. Also, the trial should be in Canada under Canadian law. If he's found guilty, then he should be put in a Candian jail.
Omar Khadr is the only detainee from a Western country who is still in detention at Guantanamo. The United Kingdom and Australia have already had their prisoners extradited. It's a shame that our Prime Minister is such a poodle to Bush that he hasn't done the same for Khadr as other Western countries have done for their citizens.
All I want is fairness and justice for Khadr.

What is the difference between these two men? Very little. They both are mass-murderers and they both committed crimes against humanity.
Al-Bashir is responsible for the death of his own people in the tens of thousands, all for power and control.
Al-Bush is responsible for hundreds of thousands of Iraqi deaths (according to some reports the figures may over a million) and tens of thousands of Afghanis. He did it for oil in Iraq and to construct a gas pipeline stretching from the former USSR to China.
Both committed heinous crimes and continue to do so.
Al-Bashir has been indicted by the International Criminal Court and rightly so. However, no one has indicted Al-Bush, except for Congressmen Dennis Kucinich and Robert Wexler who have asked for Al-Bush’s impeachment and for him to be charged for his crimes.
Now here is the difference, Al-Bashir is president of one of the poorest countries in the world and hence it is possible that his country will be invaded and he will be arrested, indicted, and hung.
Al-Bush a president of the richest and most powerful country in the world. Al-Bush will leave Whitehouse with all his glory and accolades in tact. He will be given millions of taxpayers money to build his library and a hefty pension, body guards and other perks.
Please tell me, where is the justice?
By the way I understand Al in Arabic means descendant of: one is descendant of Bashirs and other is descendant of Bushes. To me they are branches of the same tree with a similar poisonous and deadly outcome.

Harper's eyes get wide open and his dreams come rushing in. He wants to be an emperor himself. After all, that is his goal and he already behaves like one.
After conquering Afghanistan, Harper's eyes are set on Pakistan and Iran to please his emperor Bush, as Harper remains his courtier (or court jester).

FISA (The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) may say "foreign surveillance" but it allows surveillance of any American. Uncle Sam can arrest anyone, put him/her in GITMO or a similar detention facility, and waive habeas corpus. Habeas Corpus is also denied to detainees in ships, in Iraq and wherever else the American government is keeping detainees.
I was very disappointed by Senator Obama when he voted for the FISA bill (for the record, Hillary Clinton - along with former Presidential candidates Joe Biden and Chris Dodd - voted against it. The latter, Dodd, tried to fillibuster the legislation).
FISA gives retroactive immunity to telecommunication companies that participated in surveillance. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and certain members of Congress from both sides of the aisle are let off the hook for crimes they might have committed in the lead up to the Iraq War.
This is a very sad saga, and a setback for human rights and civil liberties.
Lying and deception to justify the Iraq War, waiving habeas corpus to carry out war crimes, these are the hallmarks of the Bush administration, its legacy.
Overall, talking about legacy in general, the Presidency of George W. Bush has been a disaster. It's hard to dispute this point, regardless of whether one falls on the right or the left side of the political spectrum. From soaring deficits and the growth of unnecessary bureaucracy (ie. Homeland Security) to violations of civil liberties and human rights, the list of failures is seemingly endless.
To start with, Bush has launched two bloody and unsuccessful wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Afghanistan, its been six years and still no progress, the Taliban is regrouping, Bin Laden is still at large, and the country is in ruins. Furthermore, the war in Afghanistan has created new instability in Pakistan. For instance, the City of Quetta, which used to be relatively peaceful, has now become a hotbed of Taliban and militant activity. With regards to Iraq, that country's destruction and ruin is well documented - the destruction of Iraq's infrastructure and the cost in American and Iraqi lives is staggering. Now Bush is sabre-rattling Iran - which has been empowered (and thus is a new target for the Bush administration) because their chief rival, Iraq, has been eliminated.
In the eyes of many Muslims, the "War on Terror" feels more like a "War on Islam"... or even a "Crusade on Islam."
This has ruined America's reputation, not only in the Muslim World but internationally. At best, Bush has made America into a laughingstock, at worse he's made America into an object of loathing and contempt. Unfortunately this is taken out on the American people who, when they travel overseas, often pretend to be Canadian in order to avoid being mistreated.
So put simply, Bush's Presidency has been a disaster for the World. Historians may debate who America's worse President was, but none has had such a destructive impact Worldwide as Bush has. The end of the Bush Presidency cannot come soon enough.

I thought that Harper, as our Prime Minister, had some responsibility to our citizens, rather than just sucking up to George W. Bush. A young man, a Canadian, by the name of Omar Khadr is being tortured and denied human rights at Guantanamo Bay (GITMO). There are allegations against him, but no evidence or proof.
Have we not learned from the Arar case? Why is our Prime Minister (or Bush's Prime Minion) so subservient to the Republican President? Even Republican Presidential candidate John McCain gave indication that the US is open to talking in the case of Khadr, but it has met with total silence from Harper. Apparently Harper's bosses are Bush and Cheney and Canadians are secondary, just an annoyance to deal with at election time. A sad situation indeed.
Thus people must not travel outside of Canada as long as Harper the Prime Minion is around, because you may never make it back. Prime Minion will need Bush's approval before even considering to help you.
George W. Bush showed up at America's Got Talent. All the dancing he's been doing, he thought he could make it. But the judges of America's Got Talent were not amused ;)
If Harper had not behaved like a lapdog to Bush, he probably would not have been called "Yo Harper" the same way Bush called Tony Blair "Yo Blair". Blair, like Harper, played lapdog to Bush.
I'm sure if Bush had said to Trudeau or Chretian, "Yo Trudeau" or "Yo Chretien" he would have heard loud and clear " Yo Bush boy." It is a shame that Harper is so subservient to Bush, a shame for him and for Canada as he claims to be the Prime Minister of Canada.

Why Justice Scalia you may ask? It's because he was one of the Supreme Court Justices who appointed Bush President in 2000. Quite frankly, democracy doesn't need judges like Scalia and Presidents like George W. Bush. Bush is the first President appointed by the US Supreme Court rather than being elected by the people.

What's wrong with Stephen Harper... I could write a book on that, there's so much on that topic, but I will try to keep this short.
To start with, Stephen Harper is an neocon ideologue whose out of synch with the values of the majority of Canadians. For example, rather than upholding Canada's commitment to international peacekeeping, Harper has sought a more militaristic foreign policy (Afghanistan being a key example). He has also undermined Canada's commitment to multiculturalism and open immigration through his recent immigration reforms that give almost dictatorial powers to the Immigration Minister. As well, Harper idolizes Bush and the Republican Party, even though a recent survey has shown that only 12% of Canadians would support Republican nominee John McCain.
Harper is so ideological that he even ignores facts - such as Harper's foot-dragging on climate change despite overwhelming evidence showing that its the challenge of our generation.
Internationally, Harper has played an obstructionist role on issues from poverty, to human rights, to the environment, thus tarnishing our country's reputation.
Due to his ideological rigidity and lack of charisma, Stephen Harper would normally be completely unelectable. It was only because the Liberal Party was seriously divided in 2006 that he became Prime Minister. Harper should remember this when he tries to shove a rightwing agenda down our throats.
Ironically, Harper defeated the Liberals on a promise of "clean" and "open" government and has provided anything but. He's built a reputation as a control-freak, and his government is scandal-plagued (from Cadmangate, to NAFTA-gate, to the Screiber-Mulroney affair, to, more recently, the Bernier-Couillard affair).
Finally, Harper and his Conservatives are just plain mean-spirited which has created a divisive and poisonous atmosphere in Ottawa. He played divide and conquer with the Liberals over Afghanistan, using the lives of our troops as a pawn in his political game. Harper has also abused the non-confidence motion to try and humiliate Dion. He's even resorted to racial slurs when he tried to accuse a Sikh Liberal MP of links to terrorism.
I could go on, but I'll leave it there. These are a few of my thoughts on what's wrong with Stephen Harper.
When Americans do not want "yellowcake" uranium coming to their country from Iraq, guess who is the patsy. Harper welcomes all in Canada in the port of Montreal, including 550 metric tonnes of "yellow cake."
From there, it will be transported by road to Ontario and Alberta for disposal or use of some kind. Now it's confirmed that Harper is a puppy dog to Bush. We are the patsy for all that uranium harming our environment. Thank you Harper for keeping it secret to please your masters in Washington. I suppose the Canadian people are just second class citizen.

My long-held conviction has been that capital punishment has no place in modern society. The Steven Truscott case further confirmed my conviction in this regard. This story, of his wrongful conviction, was a tragedy. It would have been an even worse tragedy if he was hanged for a crime he did not commit.

Durst is a political satirist and recently wrote a book “Bi-Partisan Bashing.” During a CNN interview, he discussed the intellectual abilities of George W. Bush. Durst said, that given Bush's abilities, one would think that Ronald Reagan and Dan Quayle had a son. I thought it was very funny. Ronald Reagan was intellectually challenged and we all know Dan Quayle had the same problem. Now George W Bush got the worst from both when it comes to his intellectual abilities. I think Hurst was right on.

I am disappointed with my American friends, they are objecting to Bush attending the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics because China has a poor human rights record. Of course, there are many serious human rights violations in China, I would not dispute this point. But the bigger question that must be asked is, what kind of human rights record does George W. Bush have, and shouldn't he be held accountable for it?
Bush lied to Americans, misled them about Iraq so he could carry out an illegal invasion. Now tens of thousands (maybe even hundreds of thousands) of Iraqis are dead, with many more displaced. Four thousand American troops have died in Iraq. All because of this illegal invasion.
Mayhem and murder continues in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Given all this, can Bush preach to the Chinese about human rights when he hardly has a human rights record of his own?
Furthermore, Bush repeatedly disregarded the Constitution of the United States over the course of his Presidency as he ignored the seperation of powers created by the founding fathers. He also disregarded habeus corpus for detainees kept in Iraq and at Guantanamo Bay (apparantely there are also detainees being kept on ships in deplorable conditions).
Dennis Kucinich and Robert Wexler, both members of Congress, have rightly asked that Bush be impeached, citing a record that is nothing short of criminal. I one-hundred percent agree with these members of Congress and I would strongly urge my American friends to take cues from these two individuals and protest against the criminal and mass murderer who calls himself President of the United States.
