New Yorker Cover

I know it was meant as satire, but I think it's in poor taste and just stirs up the negative rumours, and downright racism, against Obama and his wife that has been seen in this campaign.

  1. I don't agree. It was a hilarious send-up of the fatuous Faux News anchor who brought the "terrorist fist jab" to public attention.

We've all got to start growing thicker skins.

  2. May be dr. dawg, but I disgree. They should have shown Faux/Fixed News operator on the back.

My experience shows it was in extremely poor taste. I agree with Obama camp.

  3. Dr.Dawg, I should add that New Yorker is not always so funny. In the past I read an article in New Yorker, which demeaned immigrants to UK. It said, through mouth of some Brits, that they allowed in immigrants for the amusement of Brits and depicting them as sub-human.

New Yorker has been in my low esteem for many years now.

  4. The very fact that everyone is talking about this cover makes the case for it being a worthwhile exercise and, I'd argue, it accomplishing its objective: that of exposing the ridiculous right-wing stereotypes for the absurd, baseless smears they are.

  5. RT, if it exposes "ridiculous right-wing stereotypes" then I am all for it.

Unfortunately some right-wing nuts take it for the truth and may think this cover further confirms their belief. I hope I am wrong. May be given all the accusation against Obama I over-reacted.

It will be interesting to see what O'Reilly of Faux News has to say about it.

  6. I'm with dawg and RT on this one LeDaro. The right wing smears on Obama are ridiculous, and they deserve to be made fun of. The right wing extremists you refer to are already beyond saving, so we're sooner off letting them continue to make jackasses of themselves. After all, if they're too blind to see what is an obvious piece of satire, they're the one who look foolish.

Terrorism aside, I find it alarming that some of Obama's opponents like to attempt to discredit him by circulating the rumour that he is a Muslim. Would it really make a difference if he was? I mean, I know that we've all been given reason to doubt the American voter lately, but I just can't wrap my head around the notion that Americans are so bigotted that they would not elect a muslim, even though they seem pretty good and ready to elect a black man. I guess that's where the terrorism issue factors in. How sad, eh.

  7. Fish, I think you're right. Thanks for the great comment.

Right-wing nut jobs have to decide between his pastor of twenty years who even married Obamas and that he is ‘bad bad’ pastor now or whether Obama is a Muslim. They cannot seem to make-up their mind.

I personally do not care about a person’s colour or creed . What matters is who you are and how you treat your fellow human beings.

  8. The right-wing are going to spin this no matter what. Better to get their sleazy little whisper campaign out in the open and exposed to ridicule.

I suspect the people who might take the cover seriously aren't the type who purchase The New Yorker in any case.
