You Have to Register Your Car, But Not Your Gun

Stephen Harper abolished Canada's long gun registry, considering it an infringement on gun rights. Harper wants to follow the American model it seems - where there are lax restrictions on gun ownership and purchase.

However, is that the model we want in Canada? Gun violence is a serious problem in the United States, something brought home by the tragic Connecticut shootings, where young children were killed in a rampage by firearms taken from the perpetrator's mother.

Will Harper continue on this path of lowering gun control? The tragedy in Connecticut shows the need for restrictions and controls on firearms.

Dangerous, may warrant police raids.

Conservative priorities are out of whack with reality: according to them, there's money for fighter jets and prisons we don't need, but cutting valuable staff from Environment Canada is okay... because there is not enough money? I guess Harper was worried that he and his tarsands buddies would be roundly disproven on their denial of climate change.

More recently, Harper has abolished the long gun registry - government does not need to know how many guns you own - but (along with his friend Vic Toews) wants to pass legislation to allow government to snoop on everything we do on the internet.

So... by CON-logic it's invasive if it's to do with guns... but it's okay for government to know - and keep track of - everything we do on the internet. I guess in Harperland, surfing on the internet is more dangerous than guns... because guns don't kill people, e-mails do?

This is a government out of touch with reality.

What is with Stephen Harper? The whole RCMP brass is for the long gun registry and so are other police forces around the country as they believe that it substantially reduces gun related crimes and murders. Does Stephen Harper know something that these law enforcement officials don’t? Some of these law enforcement officials have decades of practical experience. What expertise Harper and his minions have?
