As you know human life, other than their own, did not matter for ancient kings. The multinationals operate the same way. The environmental destruction they cause results in loss of human lives and destruction of habitats for other living creatures. All in the name of profits. Then there are wars fought over fossil fuels such as in Iraq where hundreds of thousands and may be a millions people have perished. Human brutality to fellow humans continues.
One such brutality was committed against the indigenous people of Ecuador's Amazon:
"For the indigenous people of Ecuador's blemished Amazon, it doesn't matter whether Chevron is to blame, or Texaco, or the state-owned company Petroecuador. All that matters is that the kids have rashes, the chickens are dying, the people have cancer and the earth around many of their villages is soaked with oil."Recommend this post
Its amazing that this stuff is allowed to go on in this day and age. This kind of crap coupled with deforestation is way more detrimental to our survial than the CO2 problem.
ReplyDeleteThese companies should be charged with crimes against humanity.
True. However, same group of corporations are major producers of CO2. CO2 is a real problem and not confined to Amazon alone but affects the whole globe.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, but if we are going to get through the CO2 problem with any sort of familiar quality of life then we are going to need these enviroments more than ever.
ReplyDeleteI would also like to point out that chopping down the Amazon effects the whole globe to especially since it releases a lot of CO2.
