Why would Harper not allow the flying of the Canadian flag at half-mast whenever a Canadian soldier loses his/her life in Afghanistan? It is the ultimate sacrifice, to give one's life. Is it possible that it is too depressing for Harper, his staff, cabinet and caucus? Does it demoralize Harper? If that is the case then he must consider the loved ones of the soldiers who lost their lives in this prolonged war. Don't these soldiers and their families deserve that much respect and appreciation? Moreover the Canadian public must know the cost of this war.
I understand that in 2008 the House of Commons voted in favour of a motion that the flag at the Peace Tower should fly at half mast whenever a soldiers loses his/her life in Afghanistan. Lame excuses were used not to fly the flag at half-mast. Click here to read a story about the Harper Government's decision not to fly the flag at half-mast.
It looks this move was to keep the public in the dark on the war casualities.
