Extreme weather: Are these signs of Climate Change?

In the Maritimes we have been getting so far thunder and rain storms as well as hail storms. Some coastal communities were flooded. Is this the new normal? Are these the symptoms of Climate Change? There has been news coming from other parts of Canada and the U.S of extreme weather.

A three-hour deluge on July 8 was 'probably the wettest
moment' in Toronto's history, says Environment
Canada's David Phillips. (Mark Blinch/Reuters)

“They’ve proved the world is warmer. They now seem to be so focused on are we seeing wilder, more extreme weather and they realize that’s even a tougher nut to crack.

“You can always get temperature records all over the world for centuries, but boy, deciding whether this rainstorm, which is very rare, is more of the same, [or] has the weather changed or is it cyclical, is it bad luck or are we just getting in the way of nature – that’s another issue.”

  1. I wasn't impressed with Phillips' vacillations, LD. Not once did he make any mention of what's going on in the Arctic, the loss of Arctic sea ice, the new polar jet stream and the emerging Rossby waves. I'm guessing he's under pressure not to mention those things or he's just shutting down in preparation for retirement.

The Brits would find Phillips' reticence hilarious. So would the climate scientists at any leading Canadian university.

  2. Mound, I don't know much about Phillips.

It is probably both. The way Harper is silencing his own Cabinet/caucus and senior civil servants would bring these kinds of results. That is the way Harper operates. You saw my latest post and the cartoon which conveys his modes operandi.
