Governor General Michaëlle Jean Eats Raw Seal Heart

What was she thinking? This one was over the top. Supporting seal hunt is one thing but standing in that blood and gory and then eat the heart of seal. Odd!

  1. I do not want to criticize your views, I understand fully, but please understand that not all think the same or live the same. In the old days, up north, we did not have fire or stove to carry around in the arctic, so we had to eat raw meat to survive. This issue represents the traditions of the past, which you also have. No matter how gory it seems to some is normal to others.

  2. If I may add, up north the people do not have a translation for the word war, the closest would be mass murder, is this not standing in blood and gore, and a tradition you honour on the 11th of november?

  3. I actually think it's kinda cool what she did. In fact, I would try some seal heart if I got the chance.

  4. It's not "odd" as you put it, it's food. Odd is KFC.

  5. I understand the support and I can understand the norms of customs of Aboriginal communities, but I think saying just the word of support would have been enough (she should have understood how it could play out in the international media).

Also her position is ceremonial and to take it to that extent is delving into politics too much.

And yes Saskboy, KFC is gross!

P.S. I don't have my computer so I'll see you guys all later.

  8. She didn't have the guts to say NO to Harper but she had the guts and goodwill to participate in this ceremony as well as honour the Inuit.
Would people have preferred that the seal meat was processed first, by Maple Leaf?

  10. The governor general is supposed to represent us all as Canadians, which includes the people who live in the north and still follow the traditions of their ancestors, not just the majority of the country that live in the countryside or the city who go to the grocery store to purchase their factory-made meat.

It's funny to think that the majority thinks it's "odd" or barbaric or disgusting to eat raw meat, and seal meat especially. But it is no more disgusting than eating factory produced meat that is full of preservatives and God knows what. Would is seem so odd if she sat down at a table and ate with a knife and fork?

I am all for what Michaelle Jean did to support the Aboriginals because, rather than her say a few meaningless words supporting their culture, she SHOWED Canada that she supports their culture.

"Actions speak louder than words" is an appropriate phrase, I think, for this situation.
