Mike Murphy, New Brunswick Health Minister: Iggy Syndrome (aka the Iggy Effect)

Is New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham aware of this? Mike Murphy's plans to partially-privatize health care will be a major blow to Canada's public health care system, something that we have taken pride in as Canadians. His arrogant manner and demeanour makes it that much worse - he doesn't care about the people that will be hurt by his decisions, and he doesn't listen to anyone. His policies are dangerous.
Murphy must be stopped. Below is an excerpt from an article on Murphy from the New Brunswick Telegraph Journal.

"The New Brunswick health minister (is) often the target of curses and complaints... Opposition politicians regularly call for his resignation, doctors have left their posts in anger and at least one francophone group is accusing him of trying to strip them of their constitutional rights."

  1. Privatizing health care? Is this guy a Liberal? It sounds more like he takes policy advice from Ralph Klein. Though considering that Iggy is taking foreign policy advice from Harper, this is consistent with the Liberal's new "let's out neo-con the neo-cons" approach.

I read the article you linked to, this guy has NO tact or competance at all. I can't understand why anyone would let this Murphy guy be in charge of anything!

  2. I suppose that one positive aspect of privatization would be that the richer people going to private clinics and tests would free up space for others in the public system.
I also suspect that the well to doers go to doctors more frequently and may get priority on tests.

  3. I disagree Oemissions. The public system will be robbed of many health professionals further exacerbating shortages and over time, more people will buy into private plans due to the disintegrating quality of the public system giving the feds more reason to cap or reduce funding to the public sector. Whatever shell is left will be no better than charity based healthcare for the poor.

  4. Oemissions, there is a more hideous impact. The public system starts losing the best doctors and other medical staff.

Less money is spent on the public system and poor will suffer even more -less money because lobby to get better health care will be dangerously weakened. Who wants to lobby for the poor? It is a dangerous move all around.

US and some other countries are trying to follow our public system model and we want to go backwards does not bode well.

Baber, yes, it looks Ralph Klein advises Mike Murphy or should I say Mike Merciless. If Shawn Graham does not watch out this man alone can bring the NB Liberal government down.

  6. Why doesn't Shawn Graham boot him from Cabinet? This Mike Murphy guy sounds like a nutcase.

Imagine if Jon Stewart knew about him...

Just to let you know, I was one of several Canadians who nominated Tommy Douglas for the Greatest Canadian contest. And he WON!!
I don't know why they didn't include dental care too!
