Mike Huckabee's Fairness: His Statement on Rev. Jeremiah Wright

I have done my part in poking fun at Mike Huckabee, but you have to admire him for his fairness. I was impressed when I read the following statement by Mike Huckabee on Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Obama's former pastor:

I grew up in a very segregated South. And I think that you have to cut some slack — and I’m going to be probably the only conservative in America who’s going to say something like this, but I’m just telling you — we’ve got to cut some slack to people who grew up being called names, being told, ‘You have to sit in the balcony when you go to the movie. You have to go to the back door to go into the restaurant.’

You can click here to read a transcript of Huckabee's statements or click here to watch the interview where Huckabee made this statement.

  4. wright is a racist and obama sat there and listen, huckabee grew up in the segregated south, fine, bad times, wrights speach comes after the segregated south was gone and here is the point, everyone behaves like the whole country was segregated, it was not, some actually helped the minorities get a better share, what about them, u dont see wright giving them credit do you, acording to his racist venom, we are all the same and obama sits there and listens to this and absorbes it...no thank you...

  5. Liberal 4evr, thank you for your comment.

I believe in separation of state and religion. I do not think Obama should be made accountable for the comments of his pastor. Huckabee is right as things have not been that rosy for blacks in south and places like Chicago up to few decades ago when Wright was growing up in Chicago area.

Also evangelist supporters of McCain make quite drastic statements such as: Katrina was punishment from God for people's sins or 9/11 was punishment for sins of people in general and on and on. If we drag religion into debate it would get quite complex and unmanageable.

  6. I've got to hand it to Huckabee. He's the only candidate that seems truly genuine about his beliefs.

That's not to say they are the right or moral beliefs to have, but at least he seems to truly believe what he says. That earns him points.

Plus he was pretty funny on the Colbert Report! Woooooo!
