Indeed it does; I can think of a few other examples off the top of my head, both in Canada (the BC NDP in '96, the Nfld. Libs in '89) and in the USA (Bush '00). It almost happened in the US in '04, too, if Kerry had carried Ohio.
I agree, that's the way the system works, and everyone knows it going into the election. Still, it must be a bit frustrating to see the person / party that was chosen by more people not get the nod.
Did the PCs really get more votes than the Libs? I knew the NB election was (relatively) close, but is that actually what happened?
ReplyDeleteThe PCs got a tiny bit more of the popular vote however the Liberals won the most seats. Sometimes happens in our electoral system.
