Sunflower: Flower which worships the sun

This is a further mystery of life. This particular flower - called the sunflower - follows the sun as the sun moves across the horizon. This is another example of the interesting behaviour of plants.

Here is an interesting video about the sunflower and the bees who love this flower.

Update: Another fascinating characteristic of the sunflower is that it is shaped like sun.

  1. So do Okra, Desert Lupine, Arctic Poppy, Snow Buttercup and the Pitcher Plant found in Newfoundland just to mention a few.

  2. I never cared for the sunflower until I had a few seeds fallen from my bird feeders germinate. I got a good look at them and now I grow a wide variety every year. Just beautiful designs, but as Anyong says, there are many others which are a feast for the eye and imagination as well if we look closely.

Hey Le Daro, what did you think of the Trudeau Brazeau fight?

  3. 900ft Jesus,

Trudeau Brazeau fight? I saw the headline that Trudeau won. That was enough for me.

Not into boxing. I understand it was for a charity and kudos to participants.

I am just mesmerized by nature. It continues to unravel itself.

  4. Yes, nice, nice posts! That's why I live in the middle of nowhere despite the long drives to and from work every day. Looking forward to more from you.

  5. 900ft,

Sounds like a great place to live.

I grew up on a farm and encountered a lot of wilderness and to this day I enjoy such places and go for long hikes through wilderness - ran into a mouse once and another time into a big bear. They left me alone and I quietly walked away.

There are a lot of such locations in the Maritimes but I chose to live in the city -in a totally residential area.

I mostly write about social issues and politics but if any story on nature, I come across, I will try and post it.
