Obama and Nobel Peace Prize

“The Bolivian president and a Russian political leader have launched a joint effort to have President Barack Obama stripped of the Nobel Peace Prize.”

They have a reasonable point. What do you think?

  1. Zhirinovsky is a half-mad Russian neo-Nazi. I'm very disappointed, however, in the President of Bolivia.

I'm all for this limited intervention, which is helping to reduce the possibility of an epic bloodbath.

  2. Dr. Dawg, thank you for the information about Zhirinovsky. I did not know that. I am no fan of Gadhafi and he must go. But Western intervention has gone beyond no-fly-zone and it is making matters worse. Their goals are of dubious nature as many expert are indicating it is all about oil. Why not intervene in Yemen and Bahrain too and save the civilians there. There should be greater role by Arab league to rid Libya of Gadhafi. Even NATO is divided on it as Germany and Turkey do not support this action by U.S and Euro. I am afraid this is going to turn into another stalemate. Time will tell.

According to Hillary Clinton Eastern Libya provided recruits for Al-Qaeda in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is not clear where rebels’ loyalties lie.

As far as Obama is concerned many progressive Dems have reservations. He has not pulled troops out of Iraq yet, he has escalated war in Afghanistan and Gitmo has not been closed yet.

  3. Obama, despite initial hopes, is Bush Lite: a warmonger who will bomb you into the stone age, but will profess the best of intentions while doing so.

Obama should not only have his beloved prize taken from him, but should be charged with war crimes.

  4. The Public Eye, I will not go that far as to charge him with war crimes. He did inherit two wars. Bush and Cheney must be tried for war crimes first. He sure is a great disappointment.

Unfortunately in this venture he is pals with Sarkozy of France, Cameron of Britain and Harper of Canada. All of these are not above board kind of leaders. Sarkozy comes across as unstable and Cameron of course is driven by the big oil lobbies.

The problem with Obama and other politicians is that they can make all the promises they want and may have all the good intentions in the world but once elected they play in the hands of bureaucrats and bureaucrats don’t leave with the outgoing administration – in this case bureaucrats in Pentagon and State Department. I am not talking about Robert Gates or Hillary Clinton but the career bureaucrats. Obama is being puppeteered here. Power has somewhat blinded him and sooner he wakes up better it will be for him and U.S. Moreover, given that U.S is the superpower it will be better for the world too. His Nobel Peace Prize was indeed premature. It takes a very strong leader to override career bureaucrats’ advice.

Democrat Congressman Dennis Kucinich feels that Obama committed impeachable act when he went to war with Libya without approval from the Congress. This does not look good for Obama.
