OMG!! I just heard that over 100,000 Johnson and Johnson hip replacements were being recalled! This makes me so nervous--so many people I know have had hip replacements. Luckily I found a website that was extremely helpful:
This video is about a warning letter issued by the FDA to Johnson and Johnson’s orthopedic division—DePuy Orthopaedics—concerning the Corail hip system and the TruMatch knee replacement technology. Did you know that DePuy/Johnson & Johnson have also been in the news for their recall of the ASR Acetabular System and the ASR Hip Resurfacing System (both used in hip replacements)? Data provided by British researchers found that 1 in 8 patients needed a second surgery to replace faulty ASR devices implanted in them. DePuy has offered to pay for the costs of testing and treatment associated with the recall. http://hipreplacementrecall.blogspot.com
This recall is making a lot of frenzy especially to those who received the defective implant. Not only that they affect directly the patient's quality of life, but also their loved ones. The situation is almost unimaginable considering that there were more than 93,000 installations made, and many of them will start to fail in the next few years. I've managed to read an article that talks about this.
In addition to the knee replacement technology being questioned, the ASR hip replacement system of DePuy Orthopedics has also gained negative feedbacks from consumers. The hip device was found faulty upon release and now it is subject for DePuy Hip Replacement Recall.
I have heard about this already. Although I am more concern with the DePuy Pinnacle device which is also like the recalled ASRs although there are no recalled announced for it. DePuy Pinnacle Lawsuit
