Germs, Viruses and Humans

What do germs, viruses, and humans have in common?

I got the idea for this post from the above video. It looks that the volcano Eyjafjallajokull, in Iceland, after throwing off a lot of smoke and disrupting air traffic all over Europe, is resting and relaxing. It is throwing up some smoke rings as any tired human who smokes would. It is a fascinating video.

Now back to the question of "what germs, virus and humans have in common?" Germs and viruses live on the human body; the human body plays host to them and they enjoy themselves but in the process they enter the body and could harm and kill it. Our immune system fights back but it does not always succeed.

Now we humans live on earth. Earth is a host body for us. However, more often than not we start harming this body – other living-beings, animals, marine life, birds etc don't do that nearly as much. We have polluted the earth; we have dug holes in it, such as by oil companies (BP is a good example) and other mining companies. Through our polluting industries we have messed up the atmosphere of the earth and have even started causing global warming.

Earth has its own immune system; let us say they are volcanoes, earthquakes, tornados, and storms ete. That is how it tries to shake off and kill those who are trying to kill it.

In the case of BP, it messed with the ocean floor and dug too deep into its body without taking proper care and now it is spewing all that stuff – the earth's immune system at work.

Now who will win the fight? I don't know. Will the humans be able to kill the earth as is with all its beauty, greenery, oceans, rivers and multitudes of other wonders? Keep in mind that if humans succeed to kill the earth they will kill themselves too, but the reverse is not true. Earth may kill humans but keep on living. And will it kill humans before we can destroy it? I don't know the answer but it sure looks like there is that kind of struggle going on.
