Did you notice that you can't turn to a news channel on T.V without being bombarded by the images of Umar Abdulmutallab. He is receiving more coverage than any other celebrity or world leader. More so than even Barack Obama. Whether it is CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC or our own CBC. Maybe they don't realize it, but they made him a kind of iconic figure.
How soon we forget. The guy who tried to kill Ronald Reagan did so to get notoriety and many other such murderers did the same. Why to give this kind of notoriety? It is a good tool for fanatics to recruit young people telling them how they can get notoriety – from no one to taking on the world stage. Yes you need to discuss these issues but should there not be some moderation on this.
