If the US and Canada care so much for women's rights in Afghanistan, then why don't they listen to Malalai Joya. She was recently in Halifax explaining the atrocities of war in Afghanistan at the International Security Forum where big wigs like John McCain were in attendance. She was with the protestors to expose the hypocrisy of the US and Canada and the phoney war for democracy.

Update: When you visit the above site look for the very first entry: "Don't be fooled by this democratic façade – the people are betrayed." I thought the above link takes one directly to this particular statement but apparently it does not.

On this, I agree with you. We claim to be in Afghanistan to liberate women and children (which I think is just the line fed to Canadians), but even if that is the real reason, who are we to define for them what those freedoms entail? Better to help them find a safe avenue to determine their own rights (access to Internet, support with educational programs, etc.
ReplyDeleteBesides, part of women finding their autonomy is engaging in the battle to assure it.
I'd just to see her answer one simple question: "What will happen if we withdraw from
ReplyDeleteAfghanistan?"
Oh Jesus, we finally agree. We made some progress. It is a big tragedy in Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteBackseat Blogger, is US and NATO playing God? How did Afghanistan survive for centuries with its strengths and weaknesses like many other human societies? It was there when US did not even exit. US and NATO have created a bigger mess and now they must do something to overcome that mess. That something is not killing more Afghans but helping them as 900ft Jesus has pointed out.
