According to CNN, Barack Obama is considering to send 34,000 more troops to Afghanistan. Will that do? Can the US and NATO really win a military war in Afghanistan? Or, are they just wasting time, money, and the lives of the troops and of the Afghan people.
It would look that the only way to deal with this war is negotiation - in particular to negotiate that there is a government acceptable to the Afghan people with a commitment that it will not host any kind of Al-Qaeda group. It sounds highly improbable that you can take a government which is by all accounts very corrupt, call it a democracy, and then send hundreds of thousands of troops from foreign countries to keep that government propped up when Karzai controls only 20% of the country.
It just doesn't sound right.
