Do rightwing nuts want Obama assassinated?

This is scary. According to Dan Savage, a columnist who appeared on MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann, some of these rightwing nuts are consciously or unconsciously provoking people to kill Obama. Are slogans of "death panels" and "pulling the plug on granny" actually meant to incite crazies to harm Obama? Birthers, teabaggers, Michelle Bachmann, Glenn Beck, and other crazies must be stopped before they do irreversible damage. Some of these crazies are showing up with guns at public meetings where Obama is speaking. This should send alarm bells. These crazies must be taken into custody before it is too late.

  1. Everyone hoped REALLY HARD that the US was insane because of GWB. Once he was gone, it would be a new era. Of course, that wishful view ignores the fact that GWB was elected (or very nearly, depending on who you ask) by a majority of Americans -- TWICE.

  2. Geekwad, so US is insane, period. Probably you’re right. No one in his or her sane mind will vote for Bush or Cheney. Election of Bush shows that democracy does fail. I don’t know what more can be done to make democracy work.

  3. Well, voting is what you do when you can't come up with a better plan. It's rarely going to deliver the best choice, just the one that the most people are willing to live with. And even that is a pretty optimistic goal because we use such simple voting models.

To even vote on a thing, you have to boil it down until it's simple enough to fit in a slogan and on a ballot: "Brand A" or "Brand B"; "Burn the witch" or "Free the Christian". In our last election, we tried to make some pretty difficult and sophisticated choices about the direction our country would go. We instead decided not to come to any decisions. Woo, Canada.
