Michael Ignatieff and Stephen Harper Celebrate Halloween

Some fellow bloggers have been trying to make comparison between these two. Actually there is no need for that. They are one and the same, cut from the same cloth.

They both supported the Iraq war wholeheartedly and supported the Afghanistan war as well. They both defend Israel's right to carry on mayhem in Gaza and agree on many more issues as well. Harper is pulling back on Afghanistan now. The man who said, "I do not believe in cut and run" and that fight against insurgence would be won or "you're with us or against us" (repeating Bush’s mantra) now suddenly says that the Afghanistan war is not winnable. How did he find that out? Partially the war was "winnable" because he was making brownie points with the war when his idol Bush was in the Whitehouse, and now it may not be possible with Obama. Thus suddenly reality dawns on Harper. Don't get me wrong as I am all for the pull out of our troops as it is not a winnable war, but it is the flip-flops of Harper that I am pointing out.

I think both Iggy and Harper are a nightmare as leaders and hence perpetual Halloween. We need a real leader, however among the current Liberal and Conservative cadre I do not see any. So good luck Canada.

  3. Has Iggy come out and announced his position of Afghanistan? Last time I checked, he was still very much in favour of continuing the mission (but it has been a while since I have heard anything).

  4. Fish, I have no idea what Iggy's position is on Afghanistan. Given his tendencies he will base his decision on poles which probably means same position as Harper. They are twins for nothing.

  5. Sorry I meant "polls" and not "poles".

I don't think we need a leader. We need a good spokesperson for progressive, intelligent, informed Canadians.
