Mike Duffy and Pamela Wallin: Santa Did Visit Them

They already got their Christmas gifts.

Now you know that being a "good journalist" pays and Santa takes care of you ;)

If anyone thinks that they will vote to abolish the Senate or make it an elective body then think again. Why not enjoy the retirement with $100,000 plus per year up to age 75 and then enjoy the additional hefty pension after that. Why jeopardize that? Only if you are crazy and these two and other 16 recently appointed are not. You may say it is true about the other Senators too. However they did not join the Senate with the pretence of reforming it.

Long live pork barrel politics. It is barrels of fun.

Also, to all my readers, I want to wish a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

  1. Mike Duffy's appointment is unconstitutional. He's just a cottager here.

  2. That won’t bother Duffy or Harper even a tiny bit. Many Senators live in Florida or similar exotic places in winter and Ottawa in summer anyway.

  4. First off, if Mike Duffy doesn't qualify as a resident of Prince Edward Islander, neither would your MP. Nor would anyone who goes to school outside the province.

Secondly, Pamela Wallin has a proud history of serving this country: as a journalist, as the Consular General in New York City (she was appointed to that job under a Liberal government), and now as a Senator.

Last and not least, abolition of the Senate is not on the agenda -- except for social democratic parties with hidden agendas.

  5. Patrick Ross, even if these people are qualified it does not matter because the issue is the timing and circumstances under which these appointments were made. Harper firmly maintained that he would not make appointments to the Senate until it was reformed and there was some mention of abolition. Then instead of abolishing Senate he prorogued the Parliament. It is my understanding that any legislation/bill under consideration just before prorogation dies automatically and no appointments are made during that period. I do not know what legal advice GG got that she did not make those stipulations. Making these appointments at this time and during prorogation is odd to say the least.
