The Devolution of Stephen Harper

You have heard about evolution but this story is about devolution. It happens you know. Stephen Harper could have stood tall after the 2008 election as he did manage to increase his minority strength and came within the striking distance of a majority. But instead he decided to squander his political capital, like his idol Bush, real quickly. He could have co-operated with the opposition and provided stable government for 2-3 years, instead he chose to demolish the opposition in a despotic manner.

Through his Finance Deminister Jim Flaherty, he provided a Financial Update (some fellow bloggers called it the F.U.) ending the public funding of political parties which is a cornerstone of Canadian democracy as it now stands. He claimed that he wanted to save $30 million to fight the economic downturn where billions are needed. It was a drop in the bucket. His intentions were clear, he wanted no opposition and the economy was the least of his concerns. As a government in power he was sure that his party would collect enough funds to keep going. That dwarfed his stature considerably, if there was any.

The opposition decided to take him on his missteps and decided to pass a vote of no confidence on December 1st, 2008 - a day set aside for the opposition. Harper rescinded the opposition day and instead promised such a vote on December 08, 2008 - further cutting down his stature.

Then on December 4th he met with the Governor General asking her for prorogation of Parliament which was granted - a horrible precedent to override the will of the majority of the House of Commons. Now it was clear that not only does he have dictatorial tendencies, but that he is a dictator. Period. I hope Canadians understand that this is not only a prorogation of Parliament but of democracy. It looks real bad for Canada and we are becoming a laughing stock of the world.

Now, all that is left is a little dwarf of Harper who is a disgrace to himself, to Canada and to the office of the Prime Minister. The Governor General should do the right thing and ask for his resignation.

Democracy suspended in Canada

I never thought it would happen in Canada. Stephen Harper has succeeded in suspending democracy. It is also astounding that an unelected and appointed person can override the will of the majority of the Parliament - that person is our Governor General. However, she did that as a result of pressure from the Prime Minister (he still calls himself Prime Minister).

Folks we live under a monarchy and our monarch is Stephen Harper who has stifled the will of the majority of the House of Commons in order to remain monarch. He has shown utter disdain for our democracy and for our Parliamentary system and he thinks he is Prime Minister for life. What next? Will the Governor General be able to reject legislation from the House and Senate?

He is secretive, a control freak and indifferent to the soul of democracy. Those are all the symptoms of his ailment called dictatorship. Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to your new Canada under despot Stephen Harper.

Stephen Harper’s New Identity

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the new Canada. Let us get rid of the old worn out institutions of democracy and the House of Commons. Why not have stability and one lifetime leader? Zimbabwe has it. Who cares about economy, jobs, recession, depression or inflation, the stability of our Haughty Leader Stephen Harper is much more important.

From now on George W. Bush is out-dated, as he will be leaving in less than two months. Therefore he cannot be a role model for our Haughty Leader Stephen, no more. From now on it will be Robert Mugabe. Long live our Haughty Leader and down with democracy, the House of Commons and their failings.

Stephen Harper is playing foul

Stephen Harper does not want to play by the rules - he went to the Governor General to get the prorogation rather than face a confidence vote. It is odd that the Governor General has approved prorogation without any preconditions, this is like putting a roadblock in the path of democracy. Harper does not have the support of the House. How long is Harper going to survive like this?

Does he not understand that in Canada we do not elect a Prime Minister, but that we elect a House and that the Member who has the majority of the House becomes the Prime Minister? Why does Harper not understand that? He was not given the mandate to become Prime Minister that he thinks he got.

If Canadians wanted to give him the mandate, they would have given him a majority. Now it is obvious that the majority of the House is not with him, he should thus do the right and honourable thing and step down.

Another month is not going to help him at all.

Stephen Harper is bent out of shape

I heard Stephen Harper’s speech last night. He is simply bent out of shape. I did not understand the logic of the speech, as it conveyed nothing new other than begging the electorate to keep him as Prime Minister. He was also deceptive as usual suggesting that the coalition includes the separatist Bloc, however he did not use that word in the French version in order to placate the Quebec voters. A duplicitous character indeed. He assumes Quebecois and voters in general in Canada are stupid and will not catch on with his fallacies. He should remember the golden rule that "you cannot fool all the people all the time."

Ed Broadbent is one of the nicest politicians in Canada. Even he is disgusted with Harper's tactics and told the media that Harper openly lies. He said he knew previous Conservatives leaders who did not lie in public such as Joe Clark. Harper is a brand in his own right – deception and lies. He is power hungry but to quench that hunger he has no moral limits. It is in the national interest that he is shown the door. Good riddance.

Stephen Harper Spy Agency: 007 and Dumbo

Apparently Stephen Harper operates a secret service to spy on the opposition. Would you have ever imagined it would happen in Canada? Members of the Parliament being spied on by the government of the day? Do we really live in a democracy? A telephone conversation between Jack Layton and Gilles Duceppe was surreptitiously taped and then used openly to discredit them (even though there was nothing unusual about the contents of the taped conversation). Stephen Harper is behaving like Stalin. I believe this should be fully investigated and all those involved in taping the conversation and exploiting it must resign. This kind of spying is the beginning of the end of democracy.

Harper and Sarkozy: Voodoo Doll

French folks have produced a Sarkozy Voodoo doll with pins and needles and all. Every time someone feels mad at Sarkozy he/she can poke needles in the doll. Sarkozy is not pleased at all and he is suing the makers of the doll. He does not like needles poked in the doll.

I have a proposition for an entrepreneurial type, to produce similar dolls for our “beloved” leader Harper so that people have same opportunities in Canada as France. If you make lot of money share some of it with me as I gave you the idea.

My Prediction...

...not to brag, but during the last election I predicted that the outcome would be a Liberal-NDP coalition government. While my prediction did not come true right away, now it looks that it will happen.

Stephen Harper: Bye bye, It was almost nice knowing you

The Liberal Caucus has agreed that Dion will continue to lead in a coalition. Hello new PM and bye bye Steve. Steve you screwed the country really bad, though maybe not knowingly as you did not know better.

I believe Dion will make a great Prime Minister. He is honest, intelligent and down to earth. It is hoped that good days are ahead for Canada.

Pirates: New ways to grow the economy

Maybe Jim Flaherty and Stephen Harper are thinking outside the box. The economy is in bad shape and there is very little money to rescue it, hence no stimulus package. My, those Somalis are making millions by pirating ships. New ways to add dollars to the economy. So what are Flaherty and Harper planning? Maybe Somalis are a good role models after Bush and Cheney are gone. ;) Jim looks good in that attire. ;)
