Will Barack Obama's foreign policy in Egypt and Libya help him or hurt him? I don't want to defend Hosni Mubarak here, but he was a friend to the west, now it appears that extreme religious elements are taking over the country.

With Libya, Gaddafi was becoming more friendly towards the west. Now, like Egypt, the people who have replaced him are unknowns. They are likely aligned with religious extremist groups.

America - under George W. Bush and now Obama - has been too focused on being a police-man (imperialist) overseas and has not been focusing on the home-front. Unemployment and recession are serious problems in the United States.

The first president Bush basked in victory - and high poll numbers - from the First Gulf War. However, by the time of the 1992 election, the focus had shifted to Americans' number one concern as recession hit, jobs.

We all know how that election turned out. Will Obama face a similar fate?

US/NATO Attack Kills 24 Pakistani Soldiers

It's a very scary incident, which makes America's already strained relations with Pakistan even worse. Some Pakistanis are talking about retaliation, I hope there is none. Pakistan is a nuclear power and if those nukes get into the wrong hands, God help us. It would be a very dangerous situation.

I think it is extremely important that US-NATO is very careful crossing borders and bombing indiscriminately. One, it violates the sovereignty of Pakistan, and second people's lives are taken, especially when you attack military establishments in Pakistan (a supposed ally).

That reminds me of the recent GOP debate on November 22nd. It was amazing how most of the candidates gave the impression that the only legitimate government in the world was the United States, that it was up to America how countries in the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and North Africa, are governed.

In other words, they gave the impression that they are the world's rulers. The only person who came across as sensible was Ron Paul, he kept reminding the other candidates that these are sovereign countries, to let them resolve their own problems, especially as America had enough of its own problems domestically.

An interesting statement of Ron Paul's was that if the US had not stationed its forces on sacred Muslim sites in Saudi Arabia, 9/11 would probably have not happened. It looks in all this that anyone who makes any sense is Ron Paul, but unfortunately it does not look he will come anywhere close to being the GOP nominee.

If we want peace in the world, US and NATO should minimize their interventions in the governing of other countries.

CBS Republican Debate

I am not a fan of the Republican Party and would not vote for any of the candidates running for the nomination. That being said, the way the moderators treated them - being rude to them, abruptly cutting them off (even in one case where Romney had more time) was uncalled for.

I suspect the moderators were angry, but they were misdirecting their anger. The likely reason the moderators were angry? CBS only showed the first hour of the debate on television, with the rest of it only being available on the internet. Why would they do that? I have never heard of that - why only televise part of the debate? I guess the crime drama that followed was more important to CBS executives than America's future.

CBS used to be THE network for news and information during the days of Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather. Now... it's been going further and further downhill, and things like this show why. There desperately needs to be new management at CBS.

Also, I'm not the only one unimpressed by CBS's performance.

This story is unbelievable, eugenics existed up to 1970 in North Carolina, that is not very long ago. The program of forced sterilizations was directed largely against blacks - using bogus-science to carry out what essentially amounted to a form of ethnic cleansing.

It is horrific to watch this. It makes one realize that some very inhuman acts went on in North Carolina and in North America - as there were eugenics programs in other jurisdictions too, including Alberta here in Canada.

Build more prisons. He must have heard that prisons are universities for criminals. If young people with a minor crime are imprisoned for a fair length of time, they learn from the hardened criminals how to commit more crimes. Punishment and vindictiveness do not reduce crimes. They increase them.

Great victory eh! Once U.S and NATO forces leave, not only will Afghanistan fall back in the hands of the Taliban but also Pakistan and maybe Iran. Pakistan is becoming more fanatic religiously. Since 1978 Pashtuns from Afghanistan have taking refuge in Pakistan. More came during the US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. Now their influence on Pakistani society is very obvious. A 13 year old Christian girl was not only expelled from her school but her whole family was run out of town because she misspelled an Arabic word which came across as derogatory to the Prophet Muhammad. It is fairly obvious that she did not do it on purpose and apologized for her error but that was not good enough for religious leaders and other fanatics.

Pakistan and Iran have traditionally good relations and with Taliban-like governments in Pakistan, they may oblige Iran with a nuke or two. It looks scary and does not bode well for the west.

Dubya wanted to conquer Iraq at the same time as Afghanistan and took his eyes off of the latter, now his blunder is showing results. Herman Cain is a joke and no presidential material. Is it possible that Repugs purposely run these kooks to show Americans that blacks are not smart? Last time around it was Allen Keyes. Cain has the intellect of a door knob. I don’t always agree with Lawrence O’Donnell but on this one I think he is right. Cain diminishes the contributions of great civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King. He thinks he is smart enough that independently of the civil rights movement he became the boss of Godfather Pizza. Selling pizza is not the same as running the Whitehouse or making decisions as president.

I don’t think he has a hope in hell to be nominated and if that improbability happens he has no chance of winning a general election. The following video is worth watching where O’Donnell further discusses this kook with Rev. Al Sharpton, Melissa Harris-Perry and Goldie Taylor.

Has Huffington Post run out of stories?

This is one of the most disgusting stories I have read on the Huffington Post, and I am a regular reader of the Post. It is about a bridesmaid having sex with the groom. It is so disgusting that I will provide the link but I will not post the video on my blog. Click here for the link.

One advice, if you have just eaten or are going to eat then you should not watch the video because you may throw up. I could not watch the whole video, just the beginning. It cannot be characterize as porn because porn can be interesting. This one is pure crap. It is made the first page of the Canadian section of the Huff Post – odd.

Stephen Harper: Is Canada on the Right Path?

Is this the Canada we know? Remember when Canada was known as a peace-keeper, as a country that played a productive role on the world stage? Remember when we had governments that were not wedded to neo-conservative ideology? That valued our social safety net.

Stephen Harper was already slowly changing Canada in a harsher, less caring, more militaristic direction. Now, with a majority government, this Reform Party Prime Minister has free reign to re-make Canada in a neo-conservative image.

Harper and his buddy David Cameron favour slashing social programs during a severe recession, using voodoo economics to justify policies that worsen the lives of Canadians when they need the government's help. On the world stage, Canada is a pariah on climate change. It is also a pariah on foreign affairs in general with Canada following a Bushian policy of shoot first, ask questions later.

Canada's reputation was so thrashed that it was denied a seat on the UN Security Council.

Then there is a the martial law with the G-20 in Toronto. Also the restricting of immigration so that Harper can have a Canadian population more in an image he prefers. The list goes on and on.

What happened to our country? With less than 40% popular support, Harper is fundamentally remaking Canada, and taking it in a scary direction.

Putin (Put-in) in and Medvedev out as the president of Russia

Vladimir Put-in is going to be put back in as the President and caretaker Dmitry Medvedev will continue to serve Putin as a Prime Minister now. Putin is not much different than a Tsar or Stalin(ing ) in office for another 12 years as term length has been increased to 6 years and he can serve another two terms. By 2024 he will find other excuses to stay in office until he dies in office. So much for democracy in Russia.

When these leaders make speeches; pay attention to their language and the symbolism behind such language.

An American president, in this case Obama, will use the language like “we are one nation under God” partially implying American exceptionalism as if it is the only nation under God. Hey Obama, if there is a God then all nations are under the same God. As a matter of fact Americans have shown that they can be very barbaric. I believe Troy Davis was an innocent man; he was recently executed for the murder of a police officer. It was a sad spectacle and Mr. Davis maintained his innocence until the end. So much for the America being a nation under God, if authorities can behave in this brutal manner.

Then there is this British Prime Minister, David Cameron, who came to visit his buddy King Harper and addressed a joint session of the Canadian parliament. He ended his speech by saying “we are two nations under one Queen”. Wow! When did we become a colony again? I thought we were an independent nation. Harper wants to take us back to when we used to be a colony. Maybe we should ship Harper to Britain. Surely the Queen will have some room for him in her servant's quarters. Also by turning us into a colony again Harper is poking a finger into the eyes of Quebecers.

Troy Davis

After desperate pleas to halt the execution - including from Jimmy Carter, the Pope, and even from supporters of capital punishment - Troy Davis was executed.

It is a sad story. I don't think Davis committed the murder in question, or at the very least there was too much reasonable doubt to convict him: several eye witnesses recanted (having felt coerced to implicate Davis in the first place). Also, it was not possible to discern it was Davis at the crime scene itself, given the darkness and distance a witness would have had to been.

I have always been against capital punishment, something innate in me I guess. What if the real killer comes forward? This is a real tragedy.

P.S. I haven't included a picture with this post, it is too sad for me to look at the picture of Troy Davis given what's happened.

Jim Flaherty: Cost cutting consultants

The Harper government is firm that they will save a lot of money by hiring the consulting firm of Deloitte Inc. at the cost of $90,000 a day - a total cost of $19.8 million. Now Jim Flaherty, the Minister of Finance, has chimed in and says that the government made the right decision. I wonder how much Deloitte Inc. donated to Conservatives during the last federal election?
